And then Tate, you know….. I think you really would have liked Tate. You raised me to trust my own compass, and judge people for myself — and I think Tate is one of these guys where there’s this perception of him that just isn’t true. He was always reaching out to me after you passed, and not in a way where it felt like some obligation on his part. It was like my pain was his pain, and he wanted me to know that. He made me feel like I was a part of his family — his mom would even check up on me. And little stuff like that means everything when you’ve just lost your own mom. Tate was always there for whatever I needed.
thanks for grabbing that and pasting it here... it surprised me but i’m glad to hear it.For all the negativity about Tathan and his family (I have been a poster here on that, too) we should ensure that this part of Okudah's letter is called out here.
Good on you, Tate.

King beat out the likes of redshirt juniors N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell, redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha and true freshman early enrollee Tyler Van Dyke for the job. All eyes will now turn to Perry and, especially, Martell to see if either — or both — enter the transfer portal.
To me, he has undoubtedly shown that he was over-rated...and this is coming from someone who initially thought the kid would tear it up in college. Script is right in that he's an FCS-level QB, and that he needs to stay put at Miami and get a degree from a academically-solid university. Not sure if he was "overrated" but never quite found his landing spot. Happens in the crazy world that is CFB, he was never going to touch the field in meaningful minutes at Ohio State.
He couldn't get playing time with the shit show Miami had at QB last year. Maybe the talent is there, but the commitment isn't. I don't know what the issue is, but Tate has not come anywhere close to realizing the hype that preceded him, which makes him, by definition, overrated. Not sure if he was "overrated" but never quite found his landing spot.
