QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Martell's biggest problem is his ego. Until he confronts that, his life will continue this downward spiral. The problem is that he will never be who he thought he might be and told others he would. He needs to live in the present and accept himself for what he is...then he might just surpprise even himself.
This Xs a million. His parents told him "he may be the best high school football player of all time".

Who woulda guessed he might end up cocky as hell?

Surprised that we haven't seen Eddie Murphy delivering the Herpes Simplex 10 message here yet. Seriously, I hope that we don't.

While the jokes about this kid and his bravado write themselves, we should remember that he was a Buckeye. Joe Burrow and he had reason to resent bringing in Justin Fields. The problem is that Martell did not mature in the program as it was anticipated. Even if he had stayed and started, it would not have been long before Burrow passed him. There are skill issues, size issues, but the most important is his emotional fragility, which is a deal-breaker for a leader when the chips are down.

His behavior on the field, on the sidelines, and off the field has provided plenty of fodder for humor. Still, even though he left the way he did, I hope we have the decency to leave him where he belongs...among those who chose Ohio State and did their best to make a contribution. That is how I always learned Buckeye fans were supposed to think.

His parents??? Wasn't he the Gatorade POY and had Eddie George deliver his trophy, undefeated in HS and won numerous HS football awards? No one told him anything in HS, he proved it on the field. And that's why OSU(and many other schools) pursued him heavily. The problem he had(as do many highly recruited players) was that he backed down from his first real competition and figured that the QB job would be handed to him. For all we know, he could've beaten out Fields(probably not), but instead he tuck and ran and continued to believe in his own hype. He was never going to be an NFL QB, but he could've been a solid QB, and now could transition into a solid college weapon(WR, HB, etc) if he can now put his ego aside. If he goes to a smaller school, then QB is still on the table, but he's now turning into a cautionary tale.

Watch QB1, his dad literally says on QB1 that "Tate is probably the best player to ever play high school football". I about crapped my pants. I promise, go watch it.

What parent wouldn't praise their kid though? I agree, that's some extreme hyperbole, but it's a proud dad is all that I took it as. Not much of a big deal to me.
Kid had a big ego, but so did a number of former Buckeyes who were highly recruited(mainly T Pryor, who rumor had it almost divided the locker room)

A parents job is to kept the kid grounded and teach them to be humble. Not tell them they may be the best player to ever play high school football. I guess we grew up different. My dad was my biggest critic and I never played a good game. I am my sons biggest critic and he rarely gets compliments from me. He gets plenty from others blowing smoke up his rear. He needs me to keep him in realityville and reminding him he needs to work harder because there is someone out there out working him.

I am just different I guess but I don't care how good my son was you would never hear me say something as stupid as "he may be the best player TO EVER PLAY high school football". Seriously? That is beyond stupid. But that is what Tate was hearing at home, and shocker, Tate is an entitled arrogant brat. Not to mention I have first hand knowledge of how arrogant he is. He tried like hell to date my daughter and she said he was the most arrogant guy she has ever met.

Oh, I'm not personalizing this matter, no my father would hardly ever give me praise to my face. And yes, what Tate's father said, was over the top. But my point was, that I'm sure parents say similar things to their kids. You have to know YOUR kid, and some appreciate praise. But could tell that Tate has faced little opposition in his life until college. Whether his parents gave him constant praise or not, at the end of the day, he needs to have a fire inside of him that keeps him hungry, that separates the talkers from the doers.

And it was also for television. People say all types of stupid shit when you put them in front of a camera.

You mean Baldwin?
If he sacked up and turned it around... id def root for him. Whether that's where he's at, QB or another position, P5 ... MidMajor ... FCS, or just in life with degree...
Aside - Miami doesnt help matters. I dont have much good to say about Baldwin's new school after Patterson being an ass, but rooting for Miami is never natural.

Thanks. I meant Baldwin. If Martell had kept his mouth shut and taken a back seat while learning the Miami offense, he might have started at Miami today. It is a shame but I am done talking about this guy. He's gone. Good luck.
