It's probably because a star player at a smaller school isn't willing to sit out a year. You see more players trading up in basketball with the grad transfer exception.

Ben Roderick could go have a prove-it year or 2 then say he wants to come home to Columbus to play ball. Example off top of my head- obviously schollies have to be available.

I’m curious if there’s been a case where a player has “traded up” for a higher perennially ranked program. Most of the transfer waivers have been from, say, Ohio State to North Carolina or Miami or Akron, and not vice versus. Genuinely curious.

Funny and technically true, but Georgia to tOSU is more of a lateral move. Mayfield technically upgraded to Oklahoma, but he didn't have a scholly so that is a pretty big reason to transfer. If we started to see a guy like Roethlisberger transfer from Miami to tOSU for his last year of college I think it becomes a big problem.

I think Martell would have been a cancer in the locker room. He thinks he's got what it takes. I don't. I'm glad he gets an opportunity to prove me wrong and wish him the best.

If you would not have had the coaching change in there with it you would be right. Day is going to be running an offense that is going to focus on a QB who passes first and is able to run when needed. Tate was not going to succeed in winning the job.

The coaching change would’ve been at least a colorable, although I still wouldn’t buy it, argument for immediate eligibility, but the articles specifically say that this was at most a minor factor for the NCAA and that the decision was made because Day & Co. didn’t make him feel wanted.
