QB Stephen Collier (Official Thread)

Nice write up on Collier

COLUMBUS, Ohio – He isn’t what Terrelle Pryor and Braxton Miller were during their recruiting processes.

Stephen Collier isn’t a five-star prospect, and his announcement to commit to Ohio State wasn’t a national story.

But Collier, a three-star prospect according to Rivals.com, has something neither of the Buckeyes’ last two long-term starting quarterbacks had.

“I know I am good. I win ball games,” Collier told Cleveland.com during a recent phone interview. “Everyone talks about stars and recruiting rankings, but I have my own validation. Urban Meyer offered me, and that means a lot more to me than any of the recruiting rankings. He picked me to be Ohio State’s quarterback. That’s enough for me.”

Though the recruiting rankings were certainly right with Pryor and Miller, Ohio State’s current starter, Collier has a point. Meyer waited very long to issue scholarship offers to senior quarterbacks because Ohio State's coach is extra careful with the evaluation process for that position. In the end, whatever Collier showed was enough for Meyer.

  • Lee County quarterback Stephen Collier poses after being named homecoming king Friday night in Leesburg. (Timothy Threadcraft/Special to The Herald)

#LEESBURG -- As we hit the home stretch in the GHSA playoff race, it goes without saying that every snap counts. This is all too true for Lee County, reeling after its first loss of the year, a 45-14 drubbing by region foe Thomas County Central.

#With the Yellow Jackets facing lowly Hardaway tonight, the Trojans needed a win to keep their hopes of a Region 1-AAAAA crown and a home playoff game alive with defending region champ Harris County (6-2, 2-1) coming to town. To the delight of the home crowd, the Herald No. 1 Trojans (7-1, 2-1) bounced back in a major way, routing the Tigers to the tune of 44-7.

#“Last week, we don’t feel like we played our style of football,” Lee head coach Dean Fabrizio said afterwards. “We turned the ball over six times. So we challenged our kids to respond this week. We wanted to come out and make a statement, and we think we did that (Friday) night.”

#After the teams hit the locker rooms at halftime, the switched was flipped. After Dynamite Dozen quarterback Stephen Collier was crowned homecoming king at the half, he proceeded to connect on two 50-yard bombs to put Harris County away.

#“It’s been a great day,” Collier said. “Our effort was great. We weren’t executing well in the first half. We made some adjustments at halftime, and eventually we got it right. I want to shoutout my offensive line. They played a phenomenal game up front. Probably the best game they’ve played so far. The defense did their job and we came out with the win. That’s how it’s supposed to be: a good team win.”

  • LEESBURG — It took three plays for Lee County to make an offensive statement.

Quarterback Stephen Collier hit wide receiver Devontae Seay on a 28-yard slant touchdown pass moments into Friday night’s game, and the Herald No. 1 Trojans ran away with a 38-14 victory over Bainbridge at Trojan Field.

That means Lee County, which hasn’t played host to a postseason game since 2005, will be at home in the first round next week. With Harris County’s upset of Thomas County Central, Lee County wins the Region 1-AAAAA title.

I haven't read anything yet, so forgive the question if its already somewhere. But do we know his stats as to this point in the season?

From his 247 profile (Sept 6th-Oct 4th)

55/110, 984 yds, 8 TDs, 1 INT
448 rushing yds, 8 TDs

I'll see what else I can find.

Lee County loses playoff game
Collier, who had a hand in all five touchdowns scored by the Trojans, came up short in his performance. Not only did he get it done in the air with 238 passing yards and two touchdowns, but he rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns.
“It wasn’t enough obviously,” Collier said bluntly when asked about his performance. “We didn’t win the game, so it wasn’t enough. That’s all.”

His coach begged to differ.
“Stephen’s done so much for this football team during his time here and he played his heart out,” Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio confidently said. “I am very proud of him and the effort he gave, as well as the whole team and everything they’ve accomplished this year. We’re sad we came up short [Friday night], but I couldn’t be prouder of these kids.”

Seems like a Kenny Guiton type. Maybe not elite athletically in any one area, but he's pretty strong, mobile, strong enough arm, and displays some great touch and accuracy. Just needs more consistency. The thing that makes me excited he's a buckeye is what he has upstairs. Clearly an intelligent, grounded, and motivated person.
