Texas 6A Division I state championship: Southlake Carroll (12-1) vs. Austin Westlake (13-0), 7 p.m. CST Saturday
The TXHSFB season finale is billed as the "Dodge Bowl," pitting Westlake head coach Todd Dodge against his son, Carroll head coach Riley Dodge. The duo won a 2006 state championship when Riley was the starting QB at Southlake Carroll, which beat Westlake 43-29, coincidentally, in that matchup.
Ohio State five-star quarterback commit Quinn Ewers -- the nation's No. 1 player in the 2022 Top247 -- headlines this one as he leads Southlake Carroll into a matchup against one of the best high school defenses in the country, statistically speaking (allowing 5.5 points per game). Westlake features a top-tier junior quarterback of its own in four-star Cade Klubnik, who has landed almost 30 offers to date. Carroll receivers Brady Boyd (Minnesota) and Landon Samson, an emerging junior who has made some highlight-reel plays this postseason, join sophomore running back Owen Allen and Ewers to face a Westlake D spearheaded by Duke signee Nick Morris. Carroll also has a weapon in All-American Bowl honoree Joe McFadden, a Connecticut kicker signee. Klubnik's top target is four-star sophomore Jaden Greathouse, while three-star junior Connor Robertson leads Westlake's offensive line.
