QB Lincoln Kienholz (National Champion)

I’m hearing Lincoln is making this a hard camp…..not as polished as Sayin but the steps he’s taken from freshman year to today are staggering.

Worth repeating, but Lincoln was a (3) sport star…..all-state in football, basketball, and baseball.

His development was so far behind his peers coming to OSU just based on lack of reps.

Sayin is really good…..Kienholz has raw ability that is freakish. The good news is the competition is tight….I think Julian is slightly ahead but Lincoln possesses gifts that cannot be taught….just a freak athlete.

So, then, maybe LK has got a tad more than anticipated? Read that Sayin 'isn't ready', and that may be true of a RF, but am starting to believe that LK has more on the ball (pun intended), than maybe anticipated. Again, good situation to have, but in about 32 days, the balloon goes up against Texas, and one of them better be ready and sharp. Do wonder though, when does the D get to hit the QB? Or is that an experience that awaits them on gameday? Never really understood that....

I think also being from the state that he was from also affected his development, on top of playing 3 sports. He didn't have nearly the competition level as Sayin, so I'm sure he has had a bunch of "oh crap" moments at times. But his athleticism has been able to keep him in the QB race. The competition being tight is a great thing, imo. Means that OSU may have 2 competent QBs to run this offense.

Idk if I'd say LK is in the lead. I still see Sayin as slightly ahead, I haven't read anywhere that Sayin isn't ready. Both have next to no CFB experience. I thought I read somewhere that Day said that the QBs are getting hit in certain practices to prepare them for the season. They both need as many live reps as possible before Texas comes to The Shoe

Fucking hell, he certainly passes the QB look-test. Comparable size standing right next to Jackson. The fear is that Sayin will bounce out if he doesn't start, but TSC is on deck and the hedge against that loss. If LK is the right guy, that should be the decision.
You can't worry that a kid will leave if he doesn't start. Just keep finding the best talent every year. I think whomever loses the QB battle will probably transfer anyway, imo... I think that's a big reason we can possibly see OSU land 2 QBs in 2027. And with the Portal, OSU can always find a QB to provide depth, or even find a starter depending on how Day feels about the room.

My point exactly. The relentless QB recruiting and development means not being hostage to what-if apprehension. I'd think that most programs would be handcuffed by Sayin's upside even if he's not the better player this year. We don't have to be.

As much as many of us like to fantasize about having an athletic freak at QB whose talents Day will fully utilize, I think that it's well-established that he will always prefer a pocket passer who will quickly, accurately, and decisively distribute the ball to the team's stable of weapons with mobility for scrambling and designed runs being more of a nice to have attribute that weighs modestly at most in the decision as to who starts and in the game plans. Based on that and the advantage that Sayin seems to have in getting the ball out quickly and with zip, I would be very surprised if Sayin isn't the starter. That said, odds are we'll need them both.
