QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

Herbstreit sees the writing on the wall for his career. Top coaches retire and do that job better than he ever could. First, they actually excelled in the game, as opposed to his very modest accomplishments after sitting on the bench 3 years. Second, they understand the game and can talk about things that fans find interesting, not his vacuous insights and self-biased opinions.

His concern about that is etched on his face at every game day because he knows that he no longer adds anything. The deeper the Buckeye run, the more exposed he will become. Shout out to men's basketball for an SEC victory of #4 Kentucky by the way.

It is sad to watch Herbstreit spiral downwards, because he could have been so much in the announcing box. But, the truth is, I think Ohio State should ask ESPiN to never send him to another Buckeye game. Close the door. Flush the negativity away.

He wishes he was considered a Buckeye legend. He wishes he had a tree in Buckeye Grove. He wishes when he stepped on campus that he received admiration and he doesn't.

5 career TDs. 11 career INTs.

His feelings towards Ohio State all have to do with himself. I think he really believes he should be considered a Buckeye legend. I mean this is a guy who has such a huge ego he had ESPN produce a montage for his dead dog and then air it on national TV, like anyone gives a shit. And as jf no one else on College GameDay has had a dog die before. I would LOVE to hear Saban's unfiltered thoughts on that one.

It would help if he could be like Bob Ueker and throw some jabs at himself, be a little self-depreciating and honest, or even exaggerate how bad he was but his ego simply will not allow it.

That Buckeye fans see him for what he is (aka reality) instead of sharing how Kirk perceives himself, it's caused Kirk to take jabs at the fans and football program. And then the fans respond. So it's a continually escalating back and forth that is now getting out of control on Kirk's end.

Let's see if the higher ups at ESPN have a talking to with Kirk and put him on a leash before the Rose Bowl. If they let him continue with his inane ramblings trashing Ohio State, it's going to escalate further and it can only end badly for Kirk, but he's too stupid or his ego is too large to recognize it.

He's a 50 something year old man that needs attention and approval from strangers for validation like you and I need air. That is really sad when you think about it. I mean, legitimately sad to see a human being that empty inside.

If I were a better person I'd feel sorry for him.

But I'm not, so fuck him.

After yesterday, officially saying fuck him as well and won't change my opinion on him ever again. I never want to see him on campus again or in the booth calling games. This coming from someone who tried to defend him and now saying fuck him and never show your face at OSU again.

Herbstreit might have overplayed his hand with his comments last night. Tennessee fans noticed it and commented (versions of "what the hell, man? Didn't you go there?"); other fan bases noticed it, it was commented upon from here to there on social media, etc.
Won’t hold my breath on THAT apology coming either.

He deserves to be remembered in a pantheon that includes Trev Albert, Mark May, and others like them. Their careers always end up in one place and he can now see the speed increasing downhill. I sincerely hope that he is never allowed to call another Buckeye game or be on campus in an athletic facility.

That said, I thank his son for joining the Buckeyes this year. One would have to be a great fan to do that, given what people think about your father. I think that kid deserves a lot of respect and support and hope he earns the NC ring.

Except Herbie has shit all over any good will he has in Ohio. He could have a cushy gig doing sports highlights on WSYX if he loses his ESPN gig.

instead he will have a podcast no one watches and will be begging people to use promo code HERBIE at BlueChew.com
