QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, False Narratives Clown, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

Death threats are unacceptable and it blows my mind when that happens in the US, especially in sports. That said, let's be real. The world is a pretty screwed up place and death threats are not all that uncommon. Apartheid-era police often stopped researchers driving home at night with guns to the forehead..."you have been warned". I received several anonymous death threats over the years, even ones including family members or other members of management or business school leadership. There wasn't one time that the police could not identify the person pretty quickly. I hope that they got whoever threatened a kid playing football.
I "liked" your post, not because I like the facts, but because I agree with your last sentence.
This isn't acceptable, but it also isn't surprising to me. I don't think I've ever gotten a legitimate death threat. I don't want one. I hope I never get one. I hope no one in my family ever gets one. I hope no one, anywhere, ever gets one. But they'll happen. And, unfortunately, you get a lot of idiots, and a lot of them are football fans. I don't know how to get rid of these things.

You can't get rid of it. Happens in every sport in every country. Money from sports betting is gas on the fire.

The thing that can change is just the perception of college football players as anything other than professional athletes playing in a high revenue, highly gambled on sport.

If you read an NHL player, MLB player, tennis star etc received a death threat you'd shake your head at the sickness of the world, hope nothing came from it and move on. In those 3 sports, the players can routinely be as young or younger than a CFB player.

Unfortunately, this is just a "water is wet" reality thing. Herbie and his emotional support peanut butter licker are just making a cottage industry off it by playing on the latent emotions from a time when CFB players were looked at differently than other professional athletes.

Im staunchly against death threats. That being said, fuckin waaah. These aren't real threats. They're dipshits blowing off steam. If Herbert is so concerned he could take half his yearly Michigan gear budget and provide security for anyone receiving the threats and wouldn't realize the money is missing.
I guess the question is, how do you know when one is real or not? When someone sends you a message telling you where your kid parked today and the path they walked to get to the first class, it will most certainly help clear your sinuses during hay fever season. The conversation you have with your child that night may be the best conversation you will ever have with them about the importance of vigilance and having the right values.
