QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

Indeed there is no love lost there and Herbstreit is old enough he should be above it.

I think I'm the one who typically defends KH because most of the attacks on him around here aren't of much merit. Having said that, I would agree that KH probably should be the "bigger guy" here and not let any sort of grudge get in the way.

Having said all of that, I didn't listen to the Herd and only read JimOtis' summarization so I don't know what was truly said or how KH said it, but I have to admit that I can't find any fault in the summarization. I think it's a fair analysis of TP to this point. And now, unfortunately, "to this point" might be a career for TP.

I think that if you did, you might summarize it a bit differently than JO4H did. When he makes comments like, "It makes you wonder if Pryor wasn't the ringleader...", you don't need visuals to see the hatchet.

Like i said in my earlier post, I find that much of what Herbie said rings true. He clearly hasn't developed at the same skill level as several other Heisman candidates this year. There have been signs of troubling maturity issues and disrespect for the coaching staff and fellow players.

But, none of that makes it okay for a former Buckeye player to show such disloyalty, in my opinion. There were other ways that Herbie could have shown his critical assessment. Sadly, he did not.

If one only reads the bullets of his assessment, then, i agree whole heartily, it is fair; perhaps, they are straight on. For instance, if Pryor thinks that he is now a guaranteed first round draft pick in the upcoming NFL draft, I think TP would be vastly delusional and is about to have a rude awakening.
It is the tone (which i've listened the entire potcast) Herbstreit said it. There was a strong sense of dislike for TP in his delivery. To me, it is no longer spoken from a third person perspective; it is very much personal.

the truth hurts. herbstreit the former captain, son of a team captain owes nothing to pryor. if asked the question in his professional capacity as he was, he answered, anybody who isnt a scarlet glassed fanboy would have a hard time disagreeing with herbie. then again how many people wanted to lynch berbie around here last night at 11 when he brought this forward during the boise v utah game? essentially accusing him of making stuff up... right.

Not even a modicum of professional decency? Clearly he can't be troubled to treat OSU the same as any other team, but he could swap out one of his many hats for one of professional objectivity.

There are many ways to criticize Pryor's mistakes without making it personal.

You mean the part where he incriminated innocent folks? Or do you not want to talk about that?

Just out of curiosity, do you not wonder if Pryor was the ringleader? I do.

which folks did he mention that are not already mentioned?

personally i dont think hes any harder on team xyz than he is on his own institution.

how is it personal? i see no personal attacks at all. he makes a point about not being a leader, then discusses incidents which regularly occur on the sidelines. he mentions immaturity, discussed pryor overstated vision of himself and compares it to what others in college football, nfl and media see. sorry josh. i dont know what was consider an attack on a student athlete at a d13 tennis team, but those all seem grounded in fact/reality to me...

It was absolutely irresponsible to name names based on pure speculation. In doing so, he named a couple of innocent parties. These are college kids and should not have to deal with this because of some irresponsible douche on the "world wide leader". Talking about the investigation is one thing. That is absolutely respectable and his duty. Anything beyond that is unforgivable. He is what he is, a shill for his employer that likes to wrap himself in S&G when it's convenient. I have zero respect for him or what he did last night.

"Ringleader?"

Of what "ring?" Does Boom need a guy to instruct him how to sell his property? Did Adams and Pryor go out boozing where Pryor outlined his devious scheme to get Mike money for Mike's things?

Technically, what happened is an NCAA violation. I'm not going to make excuses for the guys who did it. But.. this isn't some kind of conspiracy designed with malicious intent.

Ringleader...

ridiculous.

From memory: Michael Brewster, Jordan Hall, Chris Fields. All three ended up being innocent parties. That's three too many. Naming names without proof is way over any line of decency when you're dealing with college athletes. Talk about the investigation. Talk about what is being investigated and by whom. Leave names out of it until you have proof. Anything beyond that is a ratings grab and wholly irresponsible amateur bullshit.

No, but ringleader doesn't mean that. I merely means that someone might lead a group of folks in a direction. And I don't see anything ridiculous about the suggestion that one person might take the lead in this. That's my opinion and possibly incorrect, but it wouldn't surprise me.

r)n. A person who leads others, especially in illicit or informal activities.

And.... don't leaders have followers who are seeking to obtain a common objective?

The word "ring leader" is a stupid and reckless use of the word in this circumstance.

I guess I see it in simpler terms.

TP is either a team leader or he is not. I don't know how he gets to be the team leader only when his actions are beneficial to tOSU and to him - and NOT be the leader when his actions help create a huge problem.

To the extent he is supposed to be the team leader, and to the extent that TP accepts and does not correct anyone calling him the team leader the rest of the season, I think in that context "ringleader" is not totally inappropriate.
