If Kirk Herbstreit were to read this post, I would want him to know that I am not a member of any lunatic fringe.

I am someone who feels very passionately about The Ohio State University and its influence on my life as a child, student, graduate, business executive, and professor with a PhD. I hold an Ohio State alumni award. Being associated with Ohio State over these many decades is something that I treasure, appreciating very much that I do not deserve the outstanding good fortune it has brought into my life.

As someone who was homeless for a brief period in my life and worked in janitorial, food service, and factory jobs to pay my own way through Ohio State, I attribute much of what I learned about life in those years to people in Columbus who had not finished high school or barely finished it. What I learned from those people made me a better professor and manager throughout my career.

What I describe is not unique. I have met many Ohio State alumni around the world who shared similar experiences over the years. Without exception, they spoke fondly of Columbus, Ohio State, and influential people there who impacted on their lives. It will be clear from what I write above that I feel a deep sense of loyalty to Ohio State and Columbus and that I am certain that there are a great many educated people just like me.

Given what I write above, it is understandable that I was very proud to see Herbstreit set out in his career and begin to achieve some prominence. However, it was clear that he wanted to be treated as a legendary Buckeye quarterback, despite being among the lowest quartile on most statistics and riding the bench for three years...and he wanted more complete access to Ohio State coaches and players than Coach Tressel wanted to give.

I noticed that Herbstreit began to provide fewer insights into the strategies and executions during game, and his comments turned toward something else entirely. It all came to a head, if I recall correctly, when Herbstreit mentioned that he was going to provide viewers with an inside look at Ohio State without Tressel's approval. Tressel said no and Herbstreit was embarrassed.

The two decades of conflict with Ohio State since then arose in those years. There have been so many times that Herbstreit could have repaired his relationship with Ohio State fans. The false accusations against Mike Brewster, etc., etc. In every case, it seems to me that he has just doubled-down. He appears to be unable to listen to what the market is saying. Shout into the wind as much as he likes, he will continue to dislike the outcome as he pisses his career away into the wind.

It is quite certain that Herbstreit and Day are not close friends. It is even more certain that Herbstreit is universally disliked by Ohio State fans because of what he has said and done and that he will never be considered to be a legendary Ohio State quarterback or get the access he wants.

So, here is what I really think. I think Herbstreit is disloyal and toxic. I think he talks down to fans and makes them feel that he thinks he is better than them. I don't think he should be allowed on campus for any reason until he apologizes and makes things right.

lol yall remind me of a story I heard up at the Ruckmoor, some time in late 04, or 05 time range. Was there drinking with some buddies after work and there was this group of under 30s dudes there. I had just graduated not that long ago but we were talking and Herb came up and one of the guys launches into a story/diatribe about how herb was banging coeds when game day was at Nebraska and that he was a giant piece of shit. Didn’t buy it at the time, young and naive but a few years later I had no doubt that dude was speaking the truth.

Funny, I just heard *checks notes* yesterday that the real reason he moved to Nashville was that his wife found out he was banging his way through the UA housewife scene.

I heard this from an extremely unreliable source, so if it’s wrong, I’ll hold myself to the same journalistic standard Herbie does and apologize when he apologizes to Mike Brewster for spreading false information.
