QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

If this thread doesn't come out to the regular alumni thread...come on, guy is chastised for no reason other than trying to be unbiased and yes, he went to far to prove it. But he's a true Buckeye. Don't Pete Rose him.

But on this one, I feel really hard for him. As the owner of a very good boy, I can feel for him even though a Ben had a great life. Losing a man's best friend is very tough. I would lose it if it happened to me, hope Kirk is ok.
Wild to me that you have this stance about the concrete blonde and his obvious pandering (again), yet had a position of disgust regarding JSN. It’s curious at the very least……

He goes so far out of his way to prove that he's not an OSU homer that he makes a fool of himself in the opposite direction. Anything happens at OSU (on-field or off, and this is a guy who almost always avoids off-field issues like the plague), and he is all over it. But if it's Ohio State, he becomes the Buckeyes' most vicious critic. At the same time, it's absolute radio silence about tcun whether it was Harbaugh's inept first six years or the three years of the most extensive cheating scandal in ncaa history that literally compromised the on-field product for three years.

There was a point of hatred of Herbie for me in spurts, but as pointed out below I think he just went too far to appear unbiased. He and his family was receiving death threats in Columbus and that's why he moved his family, Herbie can do better but our fans can do much better than that. Maybe it's just the bad apple people but it took a toll on his mental health and his family.

JSN quit on his team if we do a deep dive on my posts as we're apparently doing. He could've played and should have just said he's sitting out for health concerns due to Draft status. I'm just saying I get what happened, but maybe take the Nick Bosa approach there. I'll root for him in Seattle, he just falls low on my list of endeared Buckeyes. Completely different topic though.

And if anyone thinks it's a fake reaction, then you haven't owned a dog and seen the video of Kirk falling apart. There's no way he could stage the reaction after losing man's best friend. Is ESPN pimping it? Yes, fuck them and they're terrible. But I feel for anyone who loses a close pet friend like Ben regardless of what we think of him individually as a commentator.

C'mon. So, if this was such a personal tragedy, why not go through it personally, instead of in front of a filming crew. I'm with BB73. I was a BS move as he tries to repair his very damaged brand.

Here is what I think probably happened to his relationship with Ohio State. He was trying to position himself as a much loved Buckeye QB standout. Unfortunately, his very modest record says something very different and his attempts to get special access to Buckeye coaches and players were rebuffed. The Tatgate period was a disaster for the relationship because he made allegations and said things , sometimes based on hearsay and proven false eventually, that hurt Ohio State players and coaches. And he never apologized. Anyone remember, my kids will never play at Ohio State?

Many of us have had to put several very old and much loved dogs down over the years. It is jarring that someone would make a series of videos, as he did, and then assume that so many viewers loved his dog and shared his emotional experiences.

I don't have hatred toward his man. There was a time when I enjoyed is commentary and thought he would develop into a great college football analyst.

Perhaps my assumptions about his motivations are wrong. I don't pretend to know exactly what motivated him to shoot that series of videos about his dog. I have some sympathy for his emotional response to putting his dog down. I'll be putting a very dear rescue dog with Cushings Disease down in coming weeks after a decade.

That said, this man will be forever linked to a very sad emotional response that I had when he unfairly made false accusations against innocent kids of things and then refused to apologize. His dog passed away peacefully. Those kids had to live with the outcome of his apparently manufactured rage toward them, which I only can guess may have arisen from a desire to get ratings.

So, I am pleased that someone who played for Ohio State has made enough money to never work another day in his life. Nevertheless, as I watch him at a distance from time to time, I am reminded that money isn't everything.

Like many other Ohio State fans, I will never forget.

Herbie can get fucked... From tatgate to his twitter war with players to his top 25 votes to his comments about now letting his kids play here or for tressel.. the dog stuff feels like little more than these youtube influencers doing charity for clicks..... get fucked forever herbie.

Not to mention, every once in a while he will be brought up in passing (or semi-intentionally) to Riccordati on The Fan, and Riccordati makes it very clear he wants nothing to do with him anymore.

They've also insinuated that he has a history of pushing his influence on the station in previous years.

As for JSN - he literally reinjured himself prior to the Iowa game. He didn't quit.
