QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Zwick goes in-depth about his experience at Ohio State (including his recruitment) and the QB competition with Smith. The overall theme is that they seem to handle the QB competitions significantly better nowadays compared to what he went through, which included significant tension with Smith at times.

My first few major seasons as a Buckeye fan were 2002-2007. I was in high school when we beat Miami and for example my favorite Buckeye team was the 2005 team. I loved that front 7 on defense and all we were missing was elite QB play that year.

That said, I feel bad for Justin having listened to that Roosters Lounge episode. He won the competition in 2004 and struggled on an offense that was pretty young and just not very good up front. I thought Justin played well in the Alamo bowl, in the opener in 2005 and even vs Texas. He acked that fight that Troy had but I think Justin could've done similar things in 2005 and 2006. Only difference is I don't think JZ beats Michigan in either 2004, 2005 or 2006.

Just too bad JZ didn't have today's transfer portal after he lost the position battle. The only option he had was to go sit out somewhere or transfer down.

Also found it interesting that JZ seems to not think as highly about Tressel as most do. I was refreshed to hear JZs story though because its always cool to hear the behind the scenes things.

We have different rememberies about that Texas game. We win if TS plays the whole thing.

Troy played the majority of that game and didnt get the job done. Zwick for example had a drop by gonzo on the first drive that would've been a first down and obviously had a TD dropped by Hamby too. If Hamby doesn't drop that TD it's a different story.

Zwick had the fumble at the end but I think we are all over hyping Troy in that game.

It took Troy a few games to really find himself that season too and then obviously he was completely different in 2006.
