QB Joe Germaine (Rose Bowl MVP, B1G OPOY, B1G MVP)

XerTech Hires Former NFL Quarterback Joe Germaine to Integrate Sports Training into Existing Product Line

Super Bowl Champion with St. Louis Rams Adds Pro-Athlete Experience to XerTech Team

VENTURA, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
XerTech Inc. (OTCBB: XTCH), a leading manufacturer, seller, and distributor of
cutting-edge, interactive fitness systems, today announced that it has hired
former NFL quarterback Joe Germaine to integrate enhanced sports training
functionality into the existing XerTech product line.

Joe Germaine was a Super Bowl Champion with St. Louis Rams in 1999, in addition
to playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to the NFL,
Joe played quarterback at the Ohio State University, where he was a part of two
Big-Ten championship teams, becoming both a Rose Bowl champion and a Sugar Bowl
champion, in addition to being named Big-Ten player of the year.

"Joe Germaine`s extensive athletic career and his experience in the NFL is an
incredible asset to the XerTech team," said Cathi Lamberti, Chief Executive
Officer. "Although it has been a large focus of our innovative products since
the very beginning, our sport-based xergaming initiatives will be greatly
enhanced by Joe`s expert knowledge and his highly tuned sport training
aptitude."

Most exercise equipment and programs focus on strength and speed, however these
two aspects of core exercise remain isolated and often times don`t factor one of
the most important tools for high level sports and activities - the brain.
XerTech products successfully marry functional movement with instantaneous
decision making, resulting in a more integrated workout for both the mind and
body.

"XerTech provides the perfect avenue for athletes and sports enthusiasts to
exercise in a unique, and truly engaging manner," said Joe Germaine. "Unlike
regular exercise equipment, which isolates the body, without a synchronous
involvement of the mind, XerTech`s innovative products demand real-time
responses that are similar to the types of reactions faced in sports by even the
most highly-trained athletes."

XerTech is committed to engaging fitness programs and equipment that place
specific emphasis on developing the neurological pathways in the brain. The
programs and equipment offered by XerTech cover a diversity of applications,
ranging from combating obesity in youth, adults and seniors to conditioning high
performance athletics.

Cathi Lamberti added, "As part of our high growth initiatives, XerTech will be
making strategic enhancements to our team and our sales development structure as
we look to expand our sports training capabilities. We look forward to keeping
our loyal shareholders apprised of these developments in the coming weeks and
months."

Joe Germaine has been a dedicated athlete his entire life. In addition to his
decorated collegiate and NFL career, for the last 5 years, Joe has played Arena
Football for the Arizona Rattlers and the Utah Blaze, currently holding the all
time record of 5,005 passing yards in a season. In addition to his professional
career, Joe has run quarterback and skill camps, training football players the
functional ability needed to excel at their game.

What he should really be doing right now is helping Terrelle Pryor develop his emotional intelligence. Germaine was cool and collected under tremendous pressure. That last Rose Bowl drive was one of the greatest moments in Buckeye football.

Someone needs to get Terrelle into a conversation with Joe.

Backup QB Germaine drove OSU to '97 win

Joe Germaine was chosen to lead OSU on its last-chance drive to win the 1997 Rose Bowl, and he did not disappoint.

The picture hangs proudly in Joe Germaine's suburban Phoenix home. It's an iconic Ohio State photo -- of Germaine, baby-faced and bandaged, smiling alongside coach John Cooper, with the 1997 Rose Bowl trophy between them.

"That's a great picture," Germaine said.

What people might forget, or never knew, was that Germaine was an unlikely hero that night.

He didn't start the game at quarterback for OSU; that honor belonged to Stanley Jackson, as it had all year. Jackson was a junior, a year older than Germaine, and led the 10-1 Buckeyes in passing.

Germaine played only one series in the first half of the Rose Bowl and alternated with Jackson in the second half.

So after Arizona State scored a go-ahead touchdown with 1:40 left, Germaine and Jackson both looked to Cooper on the sideline, wondering who would be tapped to try to lead the Buckeyes to a comeback victory.

"Stanley and I and the rest of the team weren't too sure who was going to go out there," Germaine said. "We just both waited for (Cooper) to make a decision. He nodded towards me, so I got ready and went out there."

And thus began a drive that will live forever in Buckeyes lore. Germaine led OSU 65 yards in 74 seconds, capping it with a 5-yard touchdown pass to David Boston that gave the Buckeyes a 20-17 win.

That was OSU's last appearance in the Rose Bowl until this season, and it was a classic -- a hard-fought, back-and-forth contest between two top-five teams, decided in the final seconds.

Germaine rallies Buckeyes
Scorned Arizona kid pushes Ohio State past Sun Devils, Plummer

PASADENA, Calif. -- The spirit of Max Germaine burned brightly in his grandson during the granddaddy of all bowls -- just like Hollywood would have scripted it.

Germaine was one of the first people to befriend Bruce Snyder when he became coach at Arizona State in 1992. But Max, now deceased, was an even bigger booster of his grandson Joe, the kid from Mesa who rallied fourth-ranked Ohio State to a classic, 20-17 Rose Bowl victory over the school he rooted for as a youngster -- the team that shunned him as a quarterback.

"It's kind of ironic how things worked out," said Joe Germaine, who was selected MVP after coming off the bench in OSU's quarterback rotation to twice rally the Buckeyes in the second half. "As the season went on, I knew we were going to play each other."

The memories: From Ohio State quarterback Germaine, who won the Rose Bowl MVP after completing 9 of 17 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns: "It had been a long time, longer than 12 years since Ohio State had won a Rose Bowl. So when Jake Plummer ran it in for that touchdown with a minute or so left in the game, I'm sure in a lot of fans' minds it was here we go again, we can't win a Rose Bowl. But I think it just showed a lot of character in our coaches and in our team that we could rebound from that and come back and win the game.

"When I think back to all the great memories of being a Buckeye, that has to be at the top of the list -- that and the Michigan games. But at the end of the day everyone in the Big Ten and everyone in the Pac-10 was shooting to play in the Rose Bowl, and that's what we accomplished. And to win it in the fashion we won it, I think that's what it's all about.

"That was before the BCS, so it was a very big deal to make it into that game. Just the way they treat you the whole week, it's incredible. And then being able to play Arizona State, where I grew up and where I still live . . . it was pretty ironic to play them, and coach Cooper had won a Rose Bowl at Arizona State. So it's a special game and then just who we were playing was a great experience."

Watching Jake the Snake wink and nod on the sidelines, and then melt into the background as Germaine led Ohio State to the game winner, remains one of my all-time favorite Buckeye moments.

Little did anybody realize that the most famous player from that game would not be David Boston, Joe Germaine, Jake Plumber, Shawn Springs, Andy Katzenmoyer, but Pat Tillman.

Ex-Rattlers QB Germaine new Queen Creek coach

The Arizona Rattlers' loss is Queen Creek High's gain.

Joe Germaine, who had agreed a couple of months ago to return to the Rattlers to play in the new Arena Football 1 this year, was named Wednesday as head football coach at Queen Creek, Athletic Director Paul Reynolds said.

Reynolds said that Germaine won't play for the Rattlers.

Germaine wasn't immediately available for comment.

Germaine will add former Mesa Mountain View assistants Don Kramer and Mark Swartz to focus on the defense, Reynolds said. Kramer was former Mountain View coach Jesse Parker's top aide from the late 1970s to early '90s.

Germaine established Utah Blaze passing records playing for Danny White before the Arena Football League ceased operation after the 2008 season.

Germaine inherits Curt LeBlanc's program. Queen Creek reached the state playoffs seven times in LeBlanc's nine seasons as head coach.

This will be Germaine's first head coaching job. He played quarterback and safety at Mesa Mountain View in the 1990s, leading the Toros to a state championship under Jesse Parker in 1993. Germaine went on to play at Scottsdale Community College and Ohio State before a few NFL stints.

New audible for Germaine

Mark Heller, Tribune

Tim Hacker/Tribune Queen Creek football coach Joe Germaine, shown Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the school.

He could have felt free and clear from the flashbacks and elbow-to-the-ribs wisecracks about how a former quarterback came off the bench and ruined Arizona State's Rose Bowl in 1997.

Instead, one of the youngest high school football coaches in the state saw a different reality with his Queen Creek players.

"They don't even remember the game," Germaine said. "That's sad."

His boss does. Bulldogs athletic director Paul Reynolds was part of the '96-97 Sun Devils defense that Germaine picked apart in the final minute to negate Jake Plummer's late touchdown and give Ohio State a come-from-behind victory in the final seconds.

But 13 years later, Reynolds hired Germaine anyway once the school parted ways with Curt LeBlanc after nine seasons.

Germaine, 35, won a state championship at Mountain View under Jesse Parker in 1993, played a year at Scottsdale Community College and left for Ohio State. He won a Super Bowl as Kurt Warner's backup in St. Louis in 1999, but after stints with three other teams, never played another down in the NFL.

He starred for the Arizona Rattlers, and was the quarterbacks coach at Basha from 2004-2007 under former coach Tim McBurney.

"I've always thought I'd like to coach before I did," Germaine said. "I was a kid through college and beyond who loved practice and meetings. There's a lot of things I thought I'd like but never had an opportunity."

It's a huge leap from being a part-time position coach who ran quarterback clinics, to "the guy" in this day and age of high school football. Two-thirds (at least) of the job doesn't involve practices or games - but Germaine has surrounded himself with assistants who are long in the coaching tooth: Don Kramer (one of Parker's top assistants for nearly two decades) and Mark Swartz will lead the defense.

"I might be the worst coach on our staff," Germaine quipped.

Germaine isn't a teacher - he's involved in two other football businesses teaching kids to better integrate the physical and mental aspects of the game, plus has two little ones at home - but noted at least one coach on every level of the program is at the school full time.

"You won't know until you become a head coach how much time you have to put in," McBurney said. "The jury is out until you get a few years under your belt because it's so much different. There's a lot of things you don't know about you have to do as a head coach and how do you react to that?

"And then you have to coach."

To that end, the conviction in Germaine's voice doesn't waver - a confidence buoyed by his long-tenured assistants, athletic director and 20 years of playing the toughest position on the field at a high level.

The real fury starts in a month when practice begins in full and the Bulldogs attempt to figure out what kind of team they'll have, while the new guy in charge attempts to do the same.

"There's been a lot of things to adjust to, but nothing that's smacked me right in the face yet," he said.

As almost any coach will verify: Something always does.

Ex-ASU football player hires rival from '97 Rose Bowl
by Scott Bordow, columnist - Jul. 16, 2010
The Arizona Republic

Paul Reynolds should turn in his pitchfork.

The former Arizona State linebacker (1996) has committed the unpardonable sin. He has gone into business with a player from the Ohio State squad that defeated the Sun Devils 20-17 in the 1997 Rose Bowl.

And not just any player, mind you.

Reynolds, the athletic director at Queen Creek High School, hired former Buckeyes quarterback Joe Germaine to be his football coach.

That's right, the JOE GERMAINE WHO LED OHIO STATE ON THE GAME-WINNING DRIVE IN THE FINAL 100 SECONDS, DEPRIVING ASU OF A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

(Oh, sorry. Got carried away there for a second.)

Anyway, how could you, Paul?

"Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," Reynolds said.

Hope that helps him sleep at night.

Germaine came to Queen Creek by way of former Rattlers coach and current offensive coordinator Danny White. Reynolds and Germaine played for the Rattlers - although separated by four years - and when Reynolds called White for input, White suggested Germaine, who was the quarterbacks coach at Chandler Basha from 2004-07.

"I had heard about how good of a coach he was over at Basha, and I obviously knew how great of a player he was," Reynolds said of Germaine, whose playing career included four seasons in the NFL.

As you might imagine, the Rose Bowl came up in their first conversation.

"We laughed about it," said Germaine, the former Mesa Mountain View star.

Somewhere in Kansas a lonely hotel room wall bears the scars of a tv remote thrown in disgust when "The Snake" struck with over a minute left to give ASU the temporary lead.

Thank you "little Joe" for delivering one of the greatest Buckeye wins ever! ! :oh:
