QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

You said "That's a pretty light punishment...really light, in fact." And you insinuated that the judge must be a Buckeyes fan, having given such an abnormal or (in your words) "really light" punishment to JT.

Multiple posters responded that JT's punishment was, in fact, the norm. Stating the obvious, you were wrong. This really shouldn't be that difficult for you to grasp.

You're still refusing.

In case you hadn't noticed, the thread just got somber. Maybe you can take your pillow fight with Mili offline?
Sorry for OSUK's loss, but this is still JT's thread...

OSUK. Speechless. In Afrikaans, there is a word for persevering through tough times: vasbyt (FOSS-bait). It means to bite into something and hold on or to clench one's teeth in determination. Vasbyt, boet, vasbyt.

Thanks.

True, but it relates to the seriousness of what JT did. As long as he understands that - and I am assuming he does because I think he is a wonderful young man - I have no problem. But unfortunately, JT's mistake is the same one that killed my beloved Will - and that makes my post relevant to this thread. But who knows? I'm so off my game, I can't be sure. I have cried uncontrollably 3 times as a man: 1) when my son went to Iraq 2) when my son returned from Iraq 3) since last Saturday at 6 AM. I guess I should leave the relevance to others who have calmer emotions.

Not trying to belittle your loss. Just wanted to remind others that JT is still the topic of the thread...

I lost a 22 year old son last Friday. Killed by a drunk driver. Will had gone to Coshocton, about 30 miles south, to take senior pictures of a girl down there. He was on a rural short-cut road, and another 22 year old, with a blood alcohol content twice the limit, fell asleep and crashed head on into him, and Will was killed instantly. There was 6-8 inches between the steering wheel and Will's seat - no room for a human being to survive that. We buried him yesterday. It's been a brutal week.

Will was not our biological son. He was a friend of my daughter's. You know the type of kid - from a troubled family. Actually, calling his family dysfunctional is an insult to the word "dysfunctional". We took him in and tried to be mentors, surrogate parents, etc. to him. We weren't the only ones. Tons of people stepped up to help this kid because we all saw the potential in him to become a very good man with a little help. We loved him and he loved us.

Will had a good heart, but he had demons, and sometimes he found himself in the world of numbing his pain with drugs and alcohol. I know that there were probably 500 nights when he could have been the one who killed someone. Ironically, in the past 6 months, he had cleaned his life up and was on the verge of becoming the great man we all saw him to have the potential to be, but another troubled young man's errors caused the story to end right there. The knowledge that it could easily have been the other way around is the basis we have for forgiving the other young man.

I have been a huge JT fan, and still am. His mistake does not change that, and neither does Will's death. I believe that he will/has learned from his error, and I would be the most surprised of his fans if he ever did anything like this again. Fortunately, in his case, the worst did not happen, but I would feel better if I knew that he knows that he put himself in the position where the worst could have happened. As long as he understands this, I'm good with the consequences he has suffered. On the other hand, if he repeats this mistake, clearly, the consequences were not sufficient for him to have learned his lesson. I can tell him right now, he never wants to cause the kind of anguish to a family that we have experienced in this past week.

So sorry for your loss, OSUK. You & your family are in my thoughts.

Just saying.

Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett tried to go the Reese Witherspoon route during his drunk driving arrest -- asking the officer for special treatment because, "I'm the quarterback of Ohio State!"

TMZ Sports obtained the dash cam footage from the October 31 incident -- in which you can clearly see Barrett's SUV pull out of a line for an upcoming DUI checkpoint ... catching the attention of an officer who pulled him over.

During the stop, the officer says he could smell booze on Barrett's breath -- though J.T. insists he had NOTHING to drink that night.

Barrett is given several field sobriety tests -- and does fairly well -- but the cop is not convinced he's 100% sober and arrests him.

That's when Barrett plays the "don't you know who I am?" card ... saying, "I'm the quarterback of Ohio State ... officer, there's nothing you can do?"

The officer responds, "My intention is to not take you to jail. That's about the best I can do for you."

Once Barrett sits in the back seat of the cruiser, he begins to scream obscenities to himself ... "F**K!!! F**K!!!"

Eventually, he tells cops that fellow OSU quarterback Cardale Jones will be picking him up ... and the officers find that amusing.

Earlier this week, Barrett pled guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence and his license was suspended for 180 days.

I've used my military ID to get out of a few speeding tickets... and damn sure I'm not the only one to try it either.
"Hey can you cut me a break" isn't exactly "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?"
That phenomenon has about got me ready to order my own RPG.
I've debated a motorcycle many times... would probably get myself killed though.

On-topic:

JT goes for 300 total yards Saturday. Book it.

I'm hoping this offense gets tuned-up just in time for MSU, scUM and hopefully Indianapolis.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It's a shame that sobriety checkpoints like the one JT encountered are not designed to keep drivers like the one that killed your friend off the road. They're designed to generate statistics and revenue. JT getting popped with a BAC of .099 on a 25 mph city street didn't save any lives. It just keeps the wheels of the machine turning while the prohibitionists at MADD will use the example of your friend to argue that there is still a problem so the legal limit should be reduced to .05.

The fumble is on him but how can anyone blame the INT on him? He was hit as he released the ball (throwing to Samuel who was breaking free from a linebacker no less) and the ball goes about 10 yards right and 25 yards in the air. That's not on him whatsoever. The fumble though yes he needs to just learn to go down.

I thought he was fine in the pocket... just didn't have protection. Had the ball slapped out of his hands once, two passes deflected, and got hit on a throw at least once. I thought he was fine he just needs a little more time in the pocket

He didnt look bad at all. He's a stud and will stick his boot in Dantonios mouth next week. No worries.
He looked great. Give him that TD to start the game, and actually give him protection from the RT......

I'm struggling to find a reason why JT hasn't been starting the whole year. My brother surmises that it's all a piece of master motivation from Urban. I don't know if I disagree....because the alternative is that Urban saw a kid who fit his QB mold to a T and decided he didn't want to keep going with what has worked for him for YEARS.

Now we have a QB who has played the equivalent of 4 games. While Boykin and Seth Russel and the rest of CFB are dinged up, our starting QB is as fresh as the rest of the CFB world would be in the preseason.

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Disagree that the INT is "not on him whatsoever." This is a team game, and offensive lines will break down from time to time--that's the way football goes. He needs to see that and get the ball out quicker. A pick's a pick.

By the way--he fumbled twice yesterday. He was just fortunate the second time that Vannett was there to jump on it and save it from being another turnover.

Mind you, I don't think the played poorly at all yesterday. He looked a bit rusty at times, but you'll have that, considering the last time he played was three weeks ago, due to his suspension and the bye week. He just needs to eliminate the turnovers as the schedule toughens up the next few weeks.
