QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

Using a baseball phrase here but I always come back to this when thinking about the QB competition; You don't have to be great to play in the major leagues, you just have to be very good every day

JT Barrett reminds me of the 10 MLB vet who probably isn't physically more talented than a lot of guys he beat out for the job over his career.

I kind of like the baseball analogy. To take it further, I'd compare the potential of our three QBs to MLB pitchers as follows:

Cardale = Nolan Ryan

Braxton = Pedro Martinez

JT = Greg Maddux

I think that JT has the least room for error (i.e., his decisions, mechanics, and timing need to be closer to spot on than Braxton's or Cardale's for him to be successful since he's, for example, less likely than Braxton to avoid the consequences of a bad zone read with sheer athleticism and less likely than Cardale to get a ball that's thrown late to the intended target via sheer velocity), but that he also has the perfectionist streak, work ethic, and overall mental makeup to have the best odds of the three of being spot on.

This team should run the table no matter who starts, and I'm in 100% "trust the coaches" mode, but JT's my personal favorite of the QBs. FWIW, I think that Cardale will be the starter notwithstanding that I like JT the best.

Yeah, JT's my choice too, followed extremely closely by 12-Gauge. Events of the last few days, though, make me wonder whether it's all been decided. I hope I'm wrong.

Whichever QB starts this season has the support of the finest team in CFB, without a doubt. Let's go all the way again, Bucks.....we've all got your backs. :urban2:

Actually - if it's already been decided, hopefully that means 1 of the 3 has separated himself from the other two...given that their skill sets are mostly divergent (with JT being the middle ground between Braxton and Cardale), it's entirely possible one of them has become a frontrunner...

Obviously we are pretty confident with any of the three. I think JT's big year is next year. Something tells me Braxton is going to be fine and be the man. IF not and it's JT or Cardale, I'm ok with that too.

Next year though, JT wins a bunch of QB awards on his way to leading this team out in front. Cardale and Braxton will be in NFL by then.

I have a feeling we will see Cardale getting the nod for maybe the !st 3 games, then we will see JT and Braxton come in to see what they can do, as Urban begins to tinker with the offense to see what happens. Our opponents will be confused by all of the shuffeling and mixing up of who the starting QB will be from week to week. Should be interesting to watch.

JT' s performance tapered off sharply last year towards the end. His Indiana game was probably his worst. He was a RS freshman so it is understandable. However, there was a sharp loss of momentum and this carried over to the Michigan game early. It will be interesting to see how he comes back and if he can stay sharp consistently.

Injured at the Penn State game and injured again v Michigan. Possible explanation. Still remember Urban's end of the season wrap up and it was clear he understood that Cardale had the gun and that if he'd play within parameters set by the staff they'd be fine. But when he talked about JT it was with respect for the work JT put in prior to the season and during the season - that of the three (at the time) he was the one with the lesser skill set, but the greater student - one who not only understood the plays, but grasped the philosophy behind them.

Urb has a "history" of getting his QBs hurt because he likes to run them so much. Not saying he can't change his offensive "style" but he likes to use a running QB.
It's hard to watch a great kid like JT get hurt, but it's just a consequence of using his skill set as an advantage.

I'll never forget watching Alex Smith, Chris Leak, and John Brantley galloping through opponents' secondaries. Damn shame all those guys had their college careers cut short due to injuries because of Urbs.

The ones he asks to run are the ones he specifically recruited for that skill set just like any running back or any other position.

Barrett got hurt on a passing play when he was sacked in the pocket...the same injury would've happened to a pure drop-back passer.

Your monthly peyote bill must be staggering...
