QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I gotta be honest, I’m a bit sad that his run is over. For the ups (more) and downs (few) he was a consummate leader and teammate.

It’s not often that anyone has a four year starter in college ball, and maybe that’s why it feels this way, but it was a good place to be — his four years — to know that he would be on the field and in the locker room.

What is an end to his college career is the start of his next phase. May it be as great as his five years in Columbus. His work ethic and the core human that he is will guide him to greatness in whatever the next steps are.

I wish I could personally say thanks to the kid. From the time he arrived on campus he did more on the field and became a far greater man than most ever would hope to become. Congrats to him and the best of wishes.

Officially ends the era of this picture. So much history in this photo. I need this framed.

Braxton Miller, yes. We saw what a healthy Braxton Miller did under the Tom Herman style of offense in Urban's first 2 years.

Terrelle Pryor, no. Although he came from the read option style offense in high school he had too many flaws in the college game. His deep throws were too high and became jump balls that our receivers were able to grabb. I did not like his running style. He looked like he was too afraid of getting injured. If a defender tried to hit him low, he would crumble of give into it not wanting to get a knee injury.

Troy Smith, I don't know. His passing abilities were up there with the great OSU QBs. His running was great when he needed to scramble or could not find a receiver. I don't know how he would do in the read option style where he would be getting hit a lot more. Then again I think he would do better in the Kevin Wilson style of offense which had less read options.

All this has to be put into the context of what offense you want to compare them too. Barrett played under three OCs and three different offense styles. His skill set fit better into the Tom Herman style than the Tim Beck style. Then again which of the QBs would do better under Tim Beck, but I digress.

You also have to look at the talent surrounding the QB. Would Troy Smith do any better with last year receivers? How much better would Barrett have looked last year throwing to Ted Ginn and Anthony Gonzalez?
Just look what he did in 2014 with Thomas and Smith. That year was such a fun ride and spoiled us all.

No no no no. Perpetually contrarian posters on this site have assured me that Beck wasn't the problem.
Beck obviously sucks, and really, really sucks at calling coherent plays in a row from the booth, but this season and the way Meyer hamstrung Wilson early (and throughout?) resulting in an offense that looked remarkably and inexplicably similar to the ones that struggled under Beck made me reevaluate my opinion on the source of the issues.

Meyer gets some of the blame, and I am earnestly and strongly hoping Meyer lets Wilson off the read option chain next season and let’s him run wild with Haskins.

Either that or we might be better off going with Martell... and have only a freshman and true freshman on scholarship at QB after Burrow and Haskins transfer.

I guess Burrow would be a dark horse as well if Meyer continues to insist on tethering the offense to his read option preference. But I digress...

Four seasons, three offensive coordinators, one head coach, one quarterback.

I think we finally get the answer next year.
