Even though he led Ohio State to the College Football Playoffs, it hasn't been Barrett's best year. His numbers clearly went down after Tom Herman left Ohio State's OC position. Guess where Herman coaches now? Texas, also known as Barrett's dream school.

Due to the graduate-transfer rule, Barrett would be able to reunite with his offensive coordinator without having to sit out a season.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Shortly after the Fiesta Bowl matchup between Ohio State and Clemson was announced, Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett sent a text message.

The recipient was someone Barrett only met recently, but a person for which he has great respect: Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson.

“I said, ‘I’ll see you in Arizona, brother,” Barrett recalled. “He said, ‘All right, let’s get it.”

It was a short and sweet conversation between two of the biggest names in college football who will share the big stage Saturday when Ohio State and Clemson meet in the Fiesta Bowl. But while Barrett and Watson are both ultra-competitive and two of the very best at their respective positions, they’ve also become good friends.

They met in the summer of 2015 as counselors for the Elite 11 camp in Beaverton, Oregon. Barrett and Watson hit it off immediately and they’ve remained in contact ever since.

“Just a good relationship from there, talked periodically here and there throughout the season,” Barrett said. “We’d see each other, if we had big games we sent a text like, ‘Do your thing.’ It’s mostly just in-season encouraging and understanding that quarterbacks have an elite little fraternity.”

Does last night make the notion of JT transferring (he wouldn't have to sit out a year) any more plausible? I wonder what Tom Herman's thoughts would be on that subject.

I'd say its about .001% chance... I guess I would say only if the O staff does not change would JT consider.

While having a limited ceiling as a college QB (which everyone knows), JT made some pretty good throws last night that were dropped by OSU's best receivers, and isn't the problem.

He also isn't necessarily the solution either, as he's simply not consistent enough to allow for OSU to maintain a good passing game against top opponents. Maybe that changes with a new QB coach.

But he's certainly not a player I want to replace and hope for an untested QB to spark another playoff run. He's certainly good enough to continue leading this team as long as they have proper coaching and prep.

Exactly and if our staff stays the same then JT better go to Texas where he can get the mentoring that he needs. It's a crime what our hiring decisions did to JT and if we don't fix it for him I hope JT take matters into his own hands

He's too good to throw for 60% completion for 2000 yards in 14 games all the while running the ball 30 times a game once November comes around.

Sure we may be "doing what's necessary" to win the game at that instance but it does NOTHING for future development for our QB. These QBS of our need to be able to throw the ball against competent defenses and by running our quarterbacks 30 times in these instances it does nothing but stunt their growth making the next time we face a good defense once again a shit show of unbalanced offense.

So I say if we don't get you help JT then go somewhere where you'll throw the ball and run when you HAVE to. Do what's best for you because you've always done what's best for your team.

We've likely seen all he has and the '14 version was plenty good. A change in QB coaching as well as those drawing up the plans would go a LONG way to seeing that JT again. I suspect that he'd appreciate that quite a bit too.

I suspect he may transfer if things do not change. Maybe not, just my suspicion. I know I would. Many thought he may go pro this year, until the season unfolded and Beck made him look less than mediocre. He is possibly losing millions because I don't see him having a snowballs shot in hell getting drafted at the moment.
