QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

DWAYNE HASKINS HEISMAN ODDS FALL AFTER A CAREER PASSING PERFORMANCE

Dwayne Haskins had the best game of his college career on Saturday.

The first-year starter completed 75 percent of his passes, throwing for 455 yards – just three shy of the single game school record – and tying a school record with six touchdown passes.

Yet his Heisman Trophy odds sunk.

Haskins entered the week with 15/4 (+375) odds to win the Heisman, but following his career performance his odds fell to 9/2 (+450). Though he did overtake Kyler Murray as the second-best odds behind only Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa, who has 2/3 odds (-150).

Still being #2 at the midway point of the regular season ain't all that bad.

Media has been blowing that kid since Georgia last year. They don't play enough difficult games to force him into a poor game.

Shit they even get LSU after they deal with Georgia.
Not sure I can blame the media. Their goal is to write what people want to hear. Before the National Championship Game he never had more than 12 attempts in clean up duty. He came out to replace a healthy Hurts down 13-0, and won the game in OT. If Junction Boys had that script people would not believe it.

That being said, the odds are Tua will slip up on a game or two, and if Dwayne is locked in, the Heisman is there.

Josh Allen went 7th overall based on being very inaccurate, mediocre by any metric, and having prototypical size.
Would love Haskins to come back but cant see it.
QBs go high in the draft.

But can he go as high as Hornibrook...? Saw this and still can't believe he's the top rated guy in the conference and that far ahead of Haskins. I know he gets dinged for often throwing short passes, but man.

Being sponsored by Eckrich skews the numbers.

Why? Interesting ownership history though, it's now owned by a Chinese company.:

Eckrich was founded as a local meat market in Fort Wayne, Indiana USA, in 1894 by Peter Eckrich, an immigrant from Waldsee, Germany. The firm expanded in the local market, becoming a wholesaler in 1907 and incorporating as Peter Eckrich and Sons in 1925. It closed its last retail operation in 1932 and operated exclusively as a wholesale meat vendor. In 1972, thirty years after Peter Eckrich had died, Beatrice Foods bought the firm and merged it into its Swift and Sons meat processing division in 1986 as Swift-Eckrich. Beatrice Foods' brands were sold off over the late 1980s, culminating in 1990 with the sale of many of its brands, including Eckrich, to ConAgra. ConAgra sold Eckrich to Smithfield Foods on October 2, 2006. Then known as Shuanghui Group, WH Group purchased Smithfield Foods in 2013 for $4.72 billion.

In his article in The Athletic today:

Bruce Feldman said:
Haskins is the FBS’ highest-rated quarterback in fourth quarters this season and has the highest on-target percentage (88.0).

I would add that he has only played in the 4th qtr in games that are in doubt.

While Dwayne is affected by pass-rush pressure (all quarterbacks are), he also seems to be affected by what I call “game pressure” but what could also be called “scoreboard pressure”. It’s just that he is affected positively by game pressure.

Feldman captures this in the stat he quotes about 4th quarter efficiency, but in my opinion his efficiency when the other team goes up by more than one score in the 2nd half captures it better (see my post with the hideous format issues earlier in the thread).

TL-DR version: This kid has proven beyond doubt that he is the best last-possession qb I’ve ever seen and he gives the Buckeyes a chance against anyone, whether the defense gets fixed or not. (But yeah... fix the defense)
