QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

Great commitment letter he wrote! You can read it on the front page of the Ozone.
If you can recruit enough kids like this you'll win a lot of games and be a strong influence on the lives of many people beyond football.
Great kid! Great parents!

I have never compared a kid's ability to have an impact on others in his class to Mike Brewster...but in this Twitter era Haskins has proven that he moves the needle. Only difference was Brewster committed much earlier and was working for OSU most of the cycle. Here are just some of the players that took notice of what he, Jones and Victor did yesterday:

Jeffrey Okudah
Lamont Wade
Donovan Peoples-Jones
Fred Hansard
Mecole Hardman Jr.
Chase Young
Todd Sibley
Binjimen Victor
Austin Mack
Ben Davis

Those were just the ones I saw other people post and/or retweet...

Haskins is a really popular kid among recruits. It seems a lot of the top recievers in 16 and 17 want him throwing to them. He is a huge impact at this point. This points to him having the intangibles of being a great leader.
My only question was how well can he run the read option?

Many people think you will see the OSU offense evolve, even as soon as next year. Running Barrett has been very successful but the wear and tear can add up. And with guys like Burrow, Haskins and Clark behind him, it might be the right time to evolve from the read option to a more diverse passing game with power run principals.

That is my thought too...Haskins is not the athlete that JT is but then again, he is cerebral enough to make him plenty effective in the run game...he can make the right read enough to still make the read-zone viable (I am thinking Kenny G comparisons on that end). I don't think we will be forced out of the option with guys like Haskins but with the pieces we are putting in place, it might be best. On top of the QB, we are getting some very good pure WRs on the outside and I think a more diverse passing game is in store. The conversion of guys like Marshall, Dontre and Samuel have had some level of success and certainly are a change of pace but then again, guys like Devin Smith and Michael Thomas have really dominated. I am not saying the Pivot will be eliminated because it still serves a big role in our offense and getting guys like McCall/Hardman/Bruce will keep it in place, but you see a lot of option integration into the position that would go away. Then we have got some really big time pure WRs in '15/'16 in Hill, Stump, Mack and Victor, along with two RBs that are more suited in between the tackles in Weber and Williams.

So I do agree we will likely see a shift in the identity of this offense at least to some extent and I am really happy to see Haskins in over Wallace...Dwayne is just going to fit into our offense much better down the road imo. Oh and I had him MUCH higher ranked then Wallace for what that is worth

I will always recall what the offense did against VTech 2 years ago when they stacked 8 in the box and dared us to throw. You can be the best read option QB ever and those are bad odds. That won't happen with guys like DH that can spin it and a talented WR group. Interestingly I see that creating much more space for guys like Dontre, Samuel, McCall, etc. If you can stretch the field vertically and pound it up the middle too.... then bring in the quick twitch guys to clean up in the chaos you have an unstoppable offense. The next wave of offensive guys allow for that. Saw an interesting stat about the 15/16 offense and how many less passing TDs we had. It was a huge drop off. And it makes it hard for everything else to click.

That is the crazy part...the '17 WR class looks to be just as loaded. At the very least we are adding a 5 star dynamic receiver in Grimes, plus there are a ton of other guys we are in the lead for. Haskins has to be chomping at the bit, glad to see him working the recruiting trail. I always thought he would have done so earlier if we had taken him the first time around but the way things are shaking out, I don't even know how it could get much better haha.
