Former Ohio State quarterback Art Schlichter charged with fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State quarterback Art Schlichter was charged with a fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine and will appear in Franklin County Court on Friday.
According to WSYX-TV in Columbus, Schlichter was found unresponsive at the Hampton Inn in Hilliard and was resuscitated with the help of Narcan. A test of the substance found from Schlichter’s room came back as cocaine.
A fifth-degree felony carries a potential prison term of six to 12 months according to the Ohio revised code.
Schlichter played at Ohio State from 1978 to 1981 and threw for 7,547 yards and 50 touchdowns in 48 games. He was a two-time All-Big Ten quarterback and was taken by the Colts with the fourth pick in the 1982 NFL Draft.
He only played 13 games in the NFL as he was suspended multiple times for gambling.

I see Marlon Brando, “I coulda been a campion. I coulda been somebody!”

I know the plot lines are much different. Brando’s boxer didn’t sell himself, but Schleister could have been a champion. He could have been somebody.

My brother became a heroin addict and, after getting off it, an alcoholic until the final 5 years of his life. It destroyed everything he touched until that last five years, when he remarried and became religious. I understand and feel very sad for Schlichter, but some type of confinement might be the best thing for him and society for the rest of his life.
