QB Art Schlichter (sad)

Art Schlichter, former OSU QB, sentenced to one year probation after cocaine possession

A Franklin County judge on Wednesday sentenced Art Schlichter to one year probation after he was found guilty of cocaine possession in October, according to court records.

The former Ohio State quarterback will serve an 11-month jail sentence if he violates probation on the fifth-degree felony count.

Schlichter was found unresponsive in a Hampton Inn hotel room in Hilliard June 6 according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Hilliard police in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Officers administered Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose, before Schlichter was taken to an area hospital by Norwich Township paramedics.

Drug paraphernalia was found "throughout the room," per court records, including a white powdery substance that was later found to be .26 grams of cocaine.

Former Ohio State star Art Schlichter facing drug possession charge

Former Ohio State quarterback and first-round NFL draft pick Art Schlichter is again facing a drug charge a few months after he was sentenced to probation on a previous drug-related charge.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper wrote in a criminal complaint that he stopped a disabled vehicle driven by Schlichter near East Hudson Street and Hamilton Avenue on Feb. 2 at around 4:22 p.m.

Schlichter handed the trooper a crack pipe, and a search revealed small white rocks believed to be crack cocaine inside the car, the court documents said. He was charged with fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine and given a summons to appear in court next week.

The charge comes a few months after a judge sentenced him to probation after he was found unresponsive in a hotel room in June 2022.

I’ve never known a more broken human that survived past 30, let alone only a year away from receiving Medicare. Fascinating.
Yeah, and besides his obvious addictions; it's reported that he does have a few other serious medical issues too:

Health issues

Doctors have diagnosed Schlichter with Parkinson's disease and dementia—the side effects of numerous concussions (between 15 and 17, depending on the source) suffered over 20 years of football at junior high, high school, college and professional levels. His public defender in the 2011 case, Steven Nolder, said that Schlichter has been diagnosed with "deficits" in his frontal lobes, which have been linked to depression, impulsivity and impaired judgment. According to Snook, doctors believe that Schlichter has chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative disease caused by repeated blows to the head. Protective equipment (especially helmets) was inferior during much of Schlichter's high school, collegiate and NFL days. Even during his CFL and Arena League days, head injuries were just considered part of the game.

Just sayin': He collaborated in writing a book:

It does have some good reviews and for $6.29...... :roll1:...it might be an interesting read.

Folks - Art Schlichter was the top QB and possibly the top all around recruit back in ‘77/‘78 when he was a senior. Of course recruiting rankings were different back then.

TSC reminds me a lot of Schlichter as far as the player, the smallish school competition, and the lofty expectations

That does raise an interesting question (for another thread): how would Art's life trajectory have changed if he were a recruit today? Would the access to money have sated his thirst for unsavory revenue streams, or exacerbated it? Would the fact that athlete's lives are under a microscope from so early just filtered out that he was a dirt bag, or prevented him from become one entirely?

He's a degenerate gambler. It would have made it worse. I was on campus when he was. Guys a dick.
Perhaps he would have been exposed while a frosh or soph at OSU rather than being told it was acceptable as long as he brings wins. I’m with you in that he probably was an unrecoverable degenerate. But who knows ?

my point stands…..Art and TSC have a lot of similarities on the football field and in the general hype surrounding them at this young point

Former Ohio State QB Art Schlichter indicted on possession of drugs charge

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State University quarterback Art Schlichter was indicted last week on a felony drug charge.
In February 2024, two troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped after seeing a disabled vehicle on East Hudson Street and Hamilton Avenue in the Linden area.
Body camera footage shows troopers approaching Schlicter, who said he busted a tire after hitting what appears to be a curb in a construction area...

The trooper searched the vehicle and found a silver paper fold with small white rocks. Schlichter told them they were "crack" rocks, according to court records.
Schlichter was serving probation stemming from a drug charge in 2022. He is charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 3.
