Put down the cell phone and drive!

Cell phone aren't the biggest problem. Old people and people who drive minivans fuck up every decent driver's universe.

And how about getting on the freeway RIGHT BEHIND some person who thinks it's a good idea to merge into traffic at 40 mph?

Also, I've noticed that the more ribbon magnets a car has, the shittier the driver is.

I wholeheartedly agree. The best thing that can be done is educating people to not talk and drive..or eat and drive...or change CD's and drive and so on. The threat of a ticket or fines won't deter anyone from talking and driving.

the difference is eating, drinking, changing cd's, messing with the stereo, receiving oral, etc... requires 1 hand. talking on a cell phone while driving appears to require 2..

i agree it should be reckless op regardless of whatever stupid thing you were doing other than maintaning control over your vehicle. if we would just enforce the laws we have now we wouldn't have to invent new ones every other day.

Cates said the bill was crafted after talking with the family of Richard Saxbury. He was killed in a car wreck this year after a motorist lost control of his vehicle while looking for his cell phone.

"If you talk to the Hamilton Safety Council or the Highway Patrol, they will tell you the more things you are doing to distract yourself while your are driving, the more likely you are going to be involved in an accident, and sometimes it can be fatal," Cates said. "In the case of Mr. Saxbury, his life ended one day because some guy reached for his cell phone."

Absurd. What if the guy was looking for a stick of gum? How about his sunglasses? Or anything else. Hell, he wasn't even talking on his phone ... the whole point of the proposed law. And a FELONY? Ridiculous. Say you are in an accident (while talking on the phone) but the accident isn't your fault? What then? If you've been drinking it would be a crime, does the same apply to phone use?

Some people are terrible drivers ... it has nothing to do with cell phones or anything else. Heck I think if you CAN'T drive safely while talking on a cell phone you should have your licensed revoked. It should be part of the testing. I don't want folks on the road that can't perform the simple task of talking and driving. Even without the phone it seems like they don't command the skills required to operate a motor vehicle. People should get tested every year (or every few years) on their driving skill. Why don't we make sure people deserve the privledge of driving first, before we pass some arbitrary law that punished for cell phone use.

1. The reason you can go after cell phone users and not eaters, radio tweakers, etc. is that cell phone use is verifiable via your call log. The other issues all boil down to 'he said-she said' regarding the level of distraction. With a cell phone it is either in use or it is not.

2. There is a big difference between talking to your passenger and using a hands free head set. When I am on the phone the other person has no concept of the driving conditions. If I enter heavy traffic or have to make a touchy merge they may introduce a new and interesting topic or ask me a distracting question. I have found that with cell phone use I am much less inclined to simply be quiet for a second or two while I focus on my driving. Statistics seem to support that argument.

3. As for old people slowing you down I love to hear the whining. I am pretty much retired and rarely in a hurry. Somebody gets closer to my butt than I think they should be I slow down to 5 mph below the speed limit and we start the game. If you can actually tell that I am watching you in my rear view mirror you win. If I can get you to make some sort of hand gesture, look at your speedemoter more than once, or make a dangerous pass (I am the guy who blows you a kiss when you go by) I win.

I rarely lose.

So you think it is funny/ okay to make people make a dangerous pass endangering the lives of other people around you that have no idea whats going on?

I don't believe Oh8ch has anything to do with the road raging lunatic that passes him unsafely. Its a byproduct of the guys temper, not Oh8ch's actions.

In a way it is if he is deciding to slow down on purpose because he feels the person is driving to fast. Maybe it's an emergency that the guy is driving fast, perhaps his wife is in labor and he needs to get to the hosiptal.

perhaps getting a decription of the car and then letting him pass pulling over using your phone to call the police and tell them what is going on is better than putting several people in harms way because you think it would be funny to drive slow would be a better choice.

I hope you keep your old ass out of the left lane if you're driving 5 miles below the limit--otherwise you're just a jerk :tongue2:

Its not about driving too fast. Its about tailgating, which in itself causes more accidents than driving slow or cell phones. If Oh8ch is doing the posted speed limit, and this guy is a foot off his bumper, slowing down to let the bastard know you see him is perfectly acceptable.

If its that big of an emergency, pull over and call a fucking ambulance instead of putting everyone around him at risk. He aint helping his wife or kid a bit by getting into a pissing contest with a legal driver, swerving around him and going grill to grill with three axle truck.

Maybe I don't have time to stop and adjust my schedule because of the actions of a raving moron who wants to do 55 in a 35 and risk lives by riding everyone not doing 20 over's ass and being an aggressive, careless, selfish fuckstick.

What if you live in a rural area and it would take awhile for an amulance to get there? Seems like it is quicker to drive on direction than to wait for a ambulance coming from the hospital and then turning around and going back.

If you are driving 5 to 10 miles under teh speed limit than I would think you don't need to really be anywhere so I am sure you would have time to pull over. Notice in his example he said if he gets you to look at your speedometer more than once. that would mean that indeed it is done over a area not just a quick tap of the breaks. If you know you are causing someone to drive uncontrolable because you thought it would be funny to try to piss him off you are in just as much of teh wrong as the guy who got pissed off.

Don't agree in the least.

Oh8ch stated he slows to 5 under. Meaning he was doing the posted limit before the asshole got behind him.
