Puppy hates going outside at night

So my girlfriend and I got a new puppy last week. He's a beagle bulldog mix and is 14 weeks old. Potty training thus far has been interesting. The breeder was an older retired man who clearly did little to no training and just let them do whatever in the kennel all day and night. He has gotten significantly better during the day but when it gets dark outside he cannot stand going out. If off his leash he runs right back to the door immediately and will not move away from it. If on a leash he will freak out and try everything he can to get away from us and get back inside. During the day he loves it outside and we usually go on two walks per day. It just baffles me that he is so well behaved all day and then 8pm rolls around and he's a little devil dog.

Has anyone else had similar problems and/or have any suggestions?

Take him to a park this weekend during the early evening. Stay until the sun goes down. When you come home take him off the leash in the back yard. Maybe that will help?

But agreed, keep him out somewhere in a 'neutral' area (outside of the backyard) as the sun goes down and then walk straight into your backyard when you get home from your walk instead of going through the house.

Mystery solved.

We had the little guy at a couple family members houses last night and he went outside at night no problems and then when we got home we find out there has been a coyote in our area lurking around at night. A neighbor who has a dog said his has been freaked out at night too after hearing the coyote.
