Proposed NBA Age Limit - min 2 yrs

While I agree with what you guys are saying, the NFL does not have any kids who are 18 or 19 years old playing in their league. I think if the kid has a talent he should be paid for his talent but I guess that's an entirely different issue and one that has been hashed and rehashed.

I would like to know peoples opinions on foreign kids being allowed to play and be drafted but not American players.

Is that ok? Shouldn't the same rule be applied to European players?

Personally, I don't really care about an NBA age limit. I am bothered that the same rules don't apply to a 19 year old European who has been playing professionally for several years vs. a 19 year old graduating high school not allowed to enter the league.

That is stupid.

The only reason it is in place is to help the NCAA make money, and garner name recognition for the NBA as these players enter the league.

it a scam.It should be the same rules for all but, they can't hold the outsiders of the USA to the same rules they have for the USA players. I can't believe some LAWYER hasn't taken this to the COURTS yet, to fight the LAW OF THE NBA.
If some kid gets a chance to make some money out of school, good luck to him. I know not every kid will make it like a Lebron did but, he still will make some big money for a few years before,he's considered a bust. Now if he handles the money fine thats great but, if he doesn't, WELL THATS LIFE at least he had a great start/chance. I loved it when OSU was able to get some of those stars for a year and I'm happy for them with those OSU ties but, as a FAN they should have to stay all FOUR. FOR I CAN BRAG ABOUT OHIO STATE

Yes they could. All the NBA would have to do is set an age limit for kids from overseas.

IF they could have, why didn't they. My thoughts and not fair, To still the top players at an early age from the european teams ,the NBA making sure the europeans will not make their own league just like the NBA so they, steal a lot of those players . Like keeping that league as a junior league to the NBA.
With a outer/usa age limit that would cause teams to wait a few years and then go after those top players, whom might be like a gasol, nowitski,,,, that would be a real big buy out contract to get.

If kids play college ball for two years all the NCAA fans see them and learn their names and become their fans. Then when they go to the NBA many of those fans follow.

It doesn't work that way with foreign players.

It is ALL about the money.

very true. I'll follow all those teams with players from OSU but, like I posted .All those non americans will save the owners money and bring more fans to the NBA. So if the NBA could have done a age limit , they would have. Money/business wins in the USA:(

Jennings to play in Rome, not Arizona

Former Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings has agreed to play professionally in Italy, signing with Virtus Roma.

Jennings, who played his final two high school seasons for Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, had not yet become academically eligible to play at Arizona.
His family's attorney, Jeff Valle, said Wednesday that Virtus Roma offered an "aggressive multi-year contract with NBA release provisions which are fair for both parties." As one of the top point guard recruits in the country, Jennings was expected to start for the Wildcats this season. He could not jump to the NBA, which requires players to be at least one year removed from their high school classes graduation before being eligible to play in the league.

Jennings goes pro, signs with Pallacanestro Virtus Roma

Former Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings on Wednesday signed with an Italian professional league team, completing his plan to pass up college and play professionally in Europe to prepare himself for the 2009 NBA draft.
Jennings signed with Pallacanestro Virtus Roma of the Italian pro league.
"I'm so excited,'' Jennings said by phone from Las Vegas, where he had been training the past week. "I can't believe that it happened so fast. I remember Sonny [Vaccaro, the former grassroots basketball camp director] talking about it and then I called him and it happened so fast already.''
Jennings said he will head to Rome next Wednesday for a news conference. He said he and his mother, Alice Knox, and a few other family members would spend some time in the city, return home and then come back in late August to get ready for the season.
"I just can't wait,'' Jennings said.
Jennings said he was told the contract would be in the two- to three-year range. He wasn't aware of the financial terms. Jennings' family attorney, Los Angeles-based Jeff Valle, said in a statement Wednesday that the multiyear contract would have NBA release provisions that would be fair to both parties.

hopefully Jennings can learn some valuable life lessons playing and living in Italy for a year before he comes back for next summers draft. My hope is that he doesn't turn out to be just another ambitious high schooler with incredible ability and potential but with little brain power when they enter into the professional world. Does anyone know the actual scores he received on those standardized tests he took ?

Great for NCAA and great for NBA
I don't know where you are getting this information from because a new CBA will have to go into effect before this becomes true and to the best of my knowledge the Players Association and management and not done a new CBA. Do you have a link to this:huh:

Still speculation, but they are really leaning towards the 2 year rule, and it will be best for both college and NBA...

I wonder if playing in Europe will become more of an option for players who either cannot qualify academically or guys like OJ Mayo, who can't wait to make their $.

I also wonder if the AAU circuit will become a little less important as a showcase, since the kids will still be two years away from being draft-eligible.

I don't think that going to Europe is going to wet many high school players appetites if they have heard what Brandon Jennings has said about playing over there. I cannot find the article but I can remember hearing that he was not being paid on time and, to sum it up, playing in Europe was not all that he thought it was going to be.
