Proper cooling of tower

I'm just curious how many of you have had problems with your computer overheating and maybe crashing because of having a tower too close to a wall or not having proper ventilation around the tower. I'm hoping some of you can speak to what affect having the tower in an enclosed or tight area (like under computer desk) might have on your system.
 
What are your running would be my first question. Many computers can operate with a CPU fan and 1 case fan underneath a desk. But if you've got higher end stuff that gets hotter, then you'll need something better. I personally have not had overheating problems, I've got 2 fans in my power supply, 1 CPU fan, 4 80mm case fans, and 1 fan on my graphics card. It's a little loud, but who can hear it over the music anyway :wink2: ?

Getting a decent heat sink (hint: not the cheapest one in the store) will go a long way. I actually get by with a heatsink and one case fan on the back to draw warm air out, and I'm usually running under 50 *c, which is decent.

Unless it's the Intels that have overheating probs now, I really dont see a problem nowadays. I run a stock heatsink/fan and 1 case fan pulling out the back. My board runs at around 32 C, and my processor at like 35 C.

The Athlon 64's do not run hot at all, and the dual cores really arent much worse.

Perhaps you have the same problem i had once... really dusty living arrangements led to dust literally clogging my cpu fan.. i just took it out and cleaned the fan and things went back to normal immediately... just be careful with delicate parts.

I took my computer apart the other day to clear out all the dust on my processors heat sink. There was pretty much a blankets worth of dust on there. I was running at about 50c before and after the cleaning my temps dropped to 30c. Baisically the thick coat of dust was blocking all the air from my cpu fan.
So yeah, try to pick off as much dust as possible by hand and then let the compressed air do the rest.
