I think a lot of those wars (especially the crusades) were more of a product of the territory and monetary thing, and the beliefs touted were cynically used as a cover. Just in my IMO of course....

I blame Allah Gore and George Bush. Just because.

the more connected nature of the world heightens the awareness of these issues, but mankind has not changed that much and frequently cycles through similar phases. I am no exception.
