Prom Goers To Be Forced To Take Blood-Alcohol Test

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Hilton Head High School students will need more than fancy dresses and tuxedos to get into this year's prom: They'll also have to pass a blood-alcohol test.

School officials decided to test all students this year to determine if they have been drinking after several students arrived at last year's prom drunk, said Obie Schramm of the Beaufort County School District.

"Unfortunately, there's always a handful of students drinking, and that makes it hard for everyone. We don't want something terrible to happen," Schramm said.

School officials will administer the tests, principal Helen Ryan said.

Student Alex Clare, who is helping organize the prom, said he supports testing for alcohol.

"If I'm not drinking, then it doesn't bother me. I think some people are mad at it, but I can see why they did it," Clare said.

Beaufort County school officials said they will look at Hilton Head High's plan before deciding whether to do blood-alcohol tests at the district's other three high school proms.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Kudos to Hilton Head High School.

Why not just attach electric collars to the kids necks, that way, anytime they do something "bad" they get shocked. That way, parents no longer have the burden of raising children.

My question is, are the teachers and chaperones tested as well? I highly doubt it.

As a teacher, I'd feel responsible if one of those students drove home and killed somebody.

By allowing prom admittance when it is common knowledge that they have been drinking is condoning illegal activity and last time I checked, that's not what schools stood for.

If it was common knowledge, there would be no reason for a test. Just call the parents and tell them you suspect their child of drinking. Isn't that the reason adults attend in the first place? Or, is it to ensure that no one cops a feel?

Teachers and chaperones are of legal drinking age. If the kids want to bitch at something, they should bitch at their dumbass classmates who arrived at the prom shit-faced last year.

Just call the parents and tell them you suspect their child of drinking.

Or they could give them a BAT and prove the kids were drinking, to convince the whinny assed parents who'll cry "Not my kids!".
