Let's forget, for a minute, what is about to take place. Let's try to remember what we even do this for in the first place. Now, I know, for each of you, this "reason" is probably a little different, but in each of you there is a common thread. To accomplish a goal, a mission, if you will, that each and every one of you can share, that each of you can cherish, and that each of you can look back on later on in life an be proud that you were a part of something larger than you, something great.
Now, lets think about what that means. While you have been here, all of you have pushed yourselves to your maximum potential. You have worked your asses off to accomplish something. You have, each and every one, made sacrifices, but also an investment in your lives, in this program, and in each other, and as a result, you have an opportunity. An opportunity to see a return on those investments and to share your return with all of the people that helped you make that investment, and also those with whom you made an investment in.
It is time to collect and then pay back. You have all worked much too hard for this to be the end. What it boils down to is this, you are here to pay off a debt with the wise investments that you have made. A debt to yourselves. A debt that each and every one of you owes to yourself and to the man standing next to you.
Today, you are playing for something more important than fame or glory or even respect. You are playing for each other. You are playing so that each of you may realize your collective dream.
Now, it is time to focus on that goal, to make sure that each and every one of you do what they can to make your dreams become reality. Usually that means working hard, getting better, paying forward, Sometimes that means fighting for what you deserve.
Today, gentlemen, that is what we do. We must fight to secure that which we deserve, that which we have worked so hard for, that which we have invested in together, that which is ours. Today, gentlemen, we go to war.
This is what I was thinking about the whole time that I was reading scarletngray's post. I think that there needs to be an element of all of this in the psyche of the players' to be successful. Maybe we should combine our efforts to give the team the ultimate pep talk, as fans, I realize we will never reach the intensity of the pre-game, but it might make us feel better.
