First off I just wanted to say I am very stoked about the Chekwa verbal and I think Chimdi will be pretty good. However I didn't find his thread or Wallace's the appropriate place to put this. Many have wondered if Chekwa's verbal and all of these offers to CB's means we are out of it for Wallace and if it means Whitner+Youboty are going pro. I posted this on BN and just thought I would put it on here to here your opinions on the matter:
The 2 questions asked following the Chekwa commitent are:
1. Does this mean Whitner and Youboty are going pro?
2. Does this mean we are out of it with Wallace?
A possible answer:
1. Youboty really didn't have that great of a year. Defend him all you want but the 2nd half of the year, his weakness's were exposed. I doubt he is higher than a late 2nd round pick and most likely a mid 3rd rounder. I doubt Youboty leaves. Whitner had a great year but I'm not sure he would go first round. Whitner is the more likely of the 2 to go pro imo. However, Chekwa is a true CB and doesn't affect our safety depth whatsoever. I would read very little into these current offers in regards to Whitner, because all are CB's and we have more than adequate depth, especially with Coleman and Schwartz coming in.
2. Look who we have currently at DB. We have Everett leaving and then have Jenkins, Amos, Underwood(possible transfer), and possibly Lane(currently at RB). We know Jenkins is good and we have Youboty at the max for one more year. Amos should be a stud but is yet to hit the field. I see Underwood transferring and Lane hasn't impressed obviously. Coleman is definetly a safety and Schwartz should be as well. Fact is, we didn't have 1 CB in this class previous to Chekwa's commitment. Another point that has been hammered home but I will say it again: There is a chance that if we get Wallace, he might play offense. What if he comes in looking like a Ginn on offense and we didn't offer Chekwa, Henderson, and possibly offer Udell? We are either A. Forced to play him at CB due to depth issues. or B. Play him on offense and be weak at CB. I wouldn't read into this AT ALL as lack of confidence with Wallace. As I see it, we are in pretty good shape with him and so is PSU. Should be a fight but I really doubt he is a PSU lock. Seems to be speculation on the part of PSU fans that they will get Wallace, just due to the fact of their success in MD.
- Just my opinion on the matter but if you look at both situations and the facts, I think it is safe to say you shouldn't lose any sleep over either matter.
Now your thoughts?
