Quinn Pitcock. When was the last time he had a bad game?

Smith is OSU's MVP.
Pittman is consistently good, and sometimes great.
Laurinaitis makes great plays, and is making fewer mistakes by the game.
Ginn has the highest ceiling, but still doesn't field punts well.
Jenkins is developing into a great corner, but he's not above TS or Quinn yet.

just to play devil's advocate:
When was the last bad game Pittman had?
He sparked both of the last two games for us. we were behind when he got us going against PS
Yet Pitcock has played very well.

When it comes to an interior DL, bad and insignificant go hand in hand...that is a tough comparison when looking at skill players and a MLB on the other side.

Quinn has been insignificant in some games, but as of late, he has been incredible.

Just a thought...

I can't choose...my gut says Troy Smith just for having "it." However, some of the young guys on the D-side are already good "football players." They will be scary once they learn to add in that mental aspect as well.

screw that. go back to the begining of last season and find me a "bad" game for pitt. he's been the only consistent feature on offense the last two years. probably why he is so easily overlooked.

i think there needs to be a lot more context to this poll. as others have noted...

ginn - probably the most potential on your list
ts - mvp, could also be the most improved player
pitcock - the best we have had since anderson.
gonzo - the best wr we have
jl - a solid lb with high expectations. probably getting more publicity right now than he should be. but i wouldn't say any of it is undeserved.
mj - same as jl
pitt - easily the most underrated player since... wow.. ever? imo he is the most dependable player we have on either side of the ball.

who is the "best"? it really depends on what specific quality you are referring to. but you'd probably have to start with the guy who touches the ball every snap. smith is the definative leader of the team. one of the best qb's in the nation and can hurt you running the ball as well. but the sum of the whole is far superior than any one part imo. if the o continues to play well (and doesn't have any more rainy games :p) and the d continues to grow at the same rate it has week by week, this could end up being the best all around team we have had in a very long time.

Which player from the list hurts the most if you take him away?

Troy Smith.

That isn't the way I see it. I'd say the team would be worse off if you take away Pitcock, Animal Jr, or Jenkins than Smith, Ginn, or Pittman. Zwick is a better QB than what 90% of the other colleges have and given Troy's desire to stand in the pocket and throw the ball rather than run I don't think they would lose much if he went down. Troy has only had 1 good run so far this season. It does seem like teams are more willing to bring the house when Zwick is in the game (based on JT comments on the Cinci post game show), but Zwick burned Cinci both times they came after him. There would be less ball knocked down at the line if JZ was QB. :p
IMO Pittman would be harder to lose than Smith, but still not irreplaceable. CWells and Mo Wells could fill his shoes for the most part, although I don't want to see that happen.
Ginn would probably be the most replaceable of the offensive players since we do have several good receivers with Robo and Hartline coming along. Dukes or Small would have to pick it up if something happened to Ginn.
I just feel that if we lost one of the above 3 defensive players we would be hurting a lot more than any single offensive player.
