Poll Question - Which Young WR Will Step Up in 2004

After Santonio, Bam, and Roy Hall, which young WR will have the best year?

I voted for Hollins as well. As was mentioned, he's a 5th year Senior and so he is very familiar with the system. He's got good hands, good size and knows how to get open. I think this is his break out year, and behind Holmes, will be our most effective receiver and "go to" guy.

My vote is for Devon Lyons - the kid has great size, speed, and is very smooth. After Ginn, he will be the star of the 2004 class, IMO (and there will be a lot of very good ones from that class).

Ginn will make an impact on special teams, and (I believe) as a "triple threat" on offense, much the way Michael Wiley was used before he became the starting TB (remember that incredible game against Pitt his freshman year?). I look for Ginn to be used on several gadget plays throughout the season. However, I don't know yet whether he will make much noise as a traditional pass catching wide receiver.

I went with Hollins for 2 reasons. I met his brother last weekend at a little kid's birthday party. And, I think he displayed some nice catching ability in the S&G game. Somebody else said another very valid thing: Tressel rewards seniors. I'd like to see every receiver catch some balls.

The 2 new guys look like real studs. I have a tape of Albert Dukes from the Outback Steakhouse Palm Beach County All-Star game. I was at that game, too. It was before he committed, and I was standing there with a non-football loving buddy who just went to look at the HS Cheerleaders, I looked in the program and said, "Okay, we're looking for number 81. Ohio State wants that guy." As soon as I finished my sentance there was this bomb thrown down the right sideline and number 81 jumped right over the defender and snagged the overthrown ball. My jaw dropped, being a former QB, I got misty. 2 plays later he was on the left side and they whizzed a ball out to him on WR screen and he did a little nifty shimmy and was gone for 6.

Believe me. When we got his verbal, I was thrilled. He's the real deal.

I tried sending his tape to Gary Husteau but his address was wrong or something because the tape was returned saying wrong address. Oh, well. It's still sitting in the package in my desk at work. blah blah blah blah blah

Maybe that tape could find its way to the BuckeyePlanet recruiting gurus....

Tony Gonzales will get alot of playing time. This kid has all the tools to be the next great WR at OSU. I expect him to get more PT than most of the gurus have indicated. Everytime Tressel is asked about up and coming players Tony is the first name out of his mouth.

i'm with you, slickman. i'm putting the wheels on the albert dukes bandwagon and getting ready for the season. i think this kid is going to blow up, as he and lyons will form an amazing duo for years to come.

To be honest, I don't think D. Jordan and Zwick have a familiarity any more than Zwick and the other receivers. Sure they played together in high school but Zwick has been with most of the receivers for atleast 2 years. I dont think Jordan will make Zwick any better like some people think. I really would like it to be spread out. I want all the seniors to have great seasons and I want some young guys in there playing good as well. I think the ball will be spread out amongst the receivers. Holmes will be double-teamed most of the time.

The most votes went to Ginn, and second place went to Gonzales. That's the way the season seemed to play out also. Some (a lot actually) of these guys, I don't remember their names being called. Maybe they had some playing time, but just never had the rock tossed their way.

Too bad for Bam Childress, thought he had a ton of potential a couple of years ago. Also felt that Roy Hall would make more of an impact than either Ginn or Gonzales. Probably good that I / we were wrong, really hope someone steps up next year!

Me too. I was in the Army at the time, but didn't Bam win the Mr. football award? I think if the kid was as big as his heart is then there would be no stopping him.
I am going with Tony. I really look forward to seeing him produce next year after putting together great games against scum and in the Alamo Bowl. No matter how you look at it though that list leaves us with a lot to be excited about.
