A lot of the Coke money comes from their exclusive campus-wide distribution rights, and unless we cut enrollment in half that money's not going anywhere.

I don't think that it would disappear anymore than I think Ohio Stadium would have 15,000 for a game.

I'm not saying that football doesn't generate revenue. Hell, it subsidizes the entire athletic department. Our athletic department is self-sustaining, and for that, we should be thankful. In the larger scheme of things, it does not help fund the university nor drive Ohio State's overall fundraising.

There are certain intangibles though where it is important. In a decentralized higher education system where each university feels free to compete against the others and the city-state nature of Ohio politics, Ohio State football does help bind the state emotionally to the university. It also helps with the legislature; although, to what degree is debatable as Ohio still sucks at funding higher education and still seems unwilling to reign in the Fredo Universities from trying to compete with Ohio State.

we're only talking about five years, they are probably locked into contract for longer than that, plus we would win the NC in year 6 and everything will be cool
