A conference champ only rule would be great....for Notre Dame. A conference champ only rule would kill OOC scheduling. It has to be a BCS-style seeding system. Let the voters factor in conference champ status into their voting.
Why do you think that? SoS would still be an important factor in comparing champs from separate conferences, so it's not like winning your conference would be the only factor that would get a team into the BCS title game.

Ah, I suppose that's possible, though I would agree that playoffs and a conference-champs rule should be separate issues. If there ever were a playoff, I'd hope both OSU and UM would be in based on 2006 results.
You should've had an "Other" option. I'd say have a 16-team playoff (like all the other divisions) but incorporate the first- and quarter-final rounds into the existing low- and mid-tier bowls...
That's never going to happen either. You are not going to push the teams out of these Bowls that would normally being playing in them. That's their payday. You are never going to be able to use the existing Bowl system with that large of a field. Idaho Tech is not going to let the big schools play in 2 and 3 Bowl games as a part of a playoff run while they sit at home watching, not getting paid.
