Is there any real reason for releasing the BCS standings before the final one? The one that matters? Aside from giving jerks like us something to talk about, that is.

I thought it was so that Tuberville, Urban Cryer, and the rest of the SEC can make fools of themselves, raise the war banners, and scream bloody murder well in advance?

I see arguments for all sides. My idea is an 8 team playoff based on the bcs system(whatever it is at the time) to determine those 8 teams. The BCS bowl games still get their games. 1 vs 8 and so on and the games get rotated for the seeds each year. These games can be held either around christmas or new year's for tradtion sake and then two of the cities get semi games the next week according to seedings and then one site gets the title. only one would get left out from hosting 2 games. all sites make mucho bucks as well as the ncaa and conferences. the only other tweak could be that two or three other bowl games get entered in place of the ones getting pulled(etc. the Cap 1 and the cotton get in the bcs and get rotated in.) The reason I think this could work is we would only be adding 2 more games than we have this year and other cities could get the revenue from big games from sponsers. And the games could be finished around the same time or one week later. and the arguement would be the same for the teams not making a BCS bowl game now.

Anybody rethinking their vote after this weekend?

I am sure you will find some scUM fans that will say "we need a playoff!"

I don't know what to think of this weekend, I mean, USC/UCLA is a rivalry game, granted in past years there hasn't been much of a rivalry but USC still should not have been caught looking past UCLA. Either way, it exposed that pathetic offense for what it was.

As a playoff proponent, it didn't change my mind. However, I did see that forcing tOSU to go into a playoff would have been ridiculous this year. I give the BCS props for getting it right this year, but I still don't like the system on principle.

how can you give the BCS props for sucking again. Last year was the only good year of the BCS and it was because, only 2 12-0 TEAMS playing for the title.

Ya its great for OSU BUT, we play florida who won a title by beating FSU WHO PUMPED THEM DURING THE SEASON . That was a rematch and thats why OSU/SCUM WERE NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

First, the UF/FSU thing happend under the Bowl Colition and not the BSC. That and scUM split NC in '97 prompted the Big 10/Pac 10 to join the BCS. Second, those teams were not from the same conference.

I give the BCS props because on principle I do not believe you have only 2 teams playing for the NC that 1 of them can be a team that did not win its conference. I have said this since Nebraska got in. Also, I don't believe that you can put 2 teams from the same conference in that game as long as there are other teams with an argument. I don't want to see 2 SEC, Big 12, ACC, or Pac 10 teams playing eachother either. Apparently enough of the pollsters agreed. Don't forget that the AP put UF at #2 and they did not have a horse in the BCS tiltle game race.

My point, at the end of the season there's always a team who feels they get screwed,

And there always will be - whether it be the 5th team, the 9th team, or the 17th team somebody is getting screwed.

Imagine trying to pick only 16 teams to play in March Madness.

Fsu/Florida had a rematch for the title. They split the 2 games but, florida gets the title.

wisconsin/auburn both get screwed. I know well they finshed 3rd in there conference but, if they are going to judge these teams competition/scheduling that would win over in a second instead, of some team from a weak conference, who were told the same from playing for the title or better BCS game.

AP was changed because, most people doing this kind of voting are stupid and can't remember whar was done a few weeka ago. Bigten screwed scum .

Right - 2005 was the only good year, because the BCS totally sucked in 2002. :wink2:

Again, this was not under the BCS. Had teh BCS been in place, Arizona State would have played FSU. The BCS actually would have worked perfectly that year.

2 totally different arguments. I agree that Auburn got screwed when they got left out as an undefeated team, that is why I don't like the BCS. Wisconsin is out because beyond the NC game, the BCS is a revenue sharing agreement and the 2 team rule is in place to make sure the $$ gets spread around.

I woud argue with you here, but I don't get your point. How did the Big 10 screw scum? Because the Big 10 doesn't have a championship game which scUM or Wisky would have lost to tOSU?

If the Big 10 had a championship game it would have almost certainly played Wisconsin. If the Big 10 ever did go to a two division format Ohio State and Michigan would almost certainly be placed in the same division to ensure that the rivalry game was played every year. That is one of the problems with the Big 10 expanding to 12 teams and playing a conference championship. In order to preserve the confererence's greatest rivlary, (and the best rivalry in sports in my opinion) they would have to load the conference's two most dominant teams in the same division.

Yep, and that would really suck. I don't know how they would divide up the conference, but short of bringing in another top tier program, half of the conference would have a much easier road to the championship game.

And I'm not even going to entertain the absurd argument that the NFL regular season is boring.
i will. it's a bloated piece of shit that i turn on and then tune out because i get bored as hell watching teams punt the ball back and forth, and then sprint to score at the 2 minute warning. you have a bunch of loud mouthed divas holding out for more money, as if the millions they already have isn't enough, and 'parity' has become nearly universal mediocrity. the NFC especially is a wasteland of average teams. and the AFC, outside of the Chargers who invariably choke, and the Colts who invariably choke, isn't that much better.

free agency and a cap that is too low will not allow any really dominant (read: GOOD) teams anymore, and the NFL seems more interested in individual stats than an actual quality product on the field, which is why i find fantasy football to be deporable as well, especially when you consider that is it just another way to generate revenue through gambling... personally, when i want to play fantasy football, i start a Madden dynasty, and trade to get all the Ohio State players on the Cleveland Browns roster... that's much more fun than watching Cleveland's front office bumble their way into drafting fucking Kellen Winslow Jr and Braylon Edwards...

finally, please don't tell me you find Rex Grossman's 34 yards and 1.3 passer rating entertaining. i'd rather watch old people fuck.

sorry, but i couldn't help it... okay... i'm better now. /rant
