Both Schaeffer and Emerson had metal bats at one point, but the affidavit stated that they both put the bats down before they began hitting anyone.

All of this over a cell phone? My first question for the girlfriend would have been "What are you doing out at 5 am?"

I believe I would need a decent answer before I threw away my career over a woman....but that's just me.

So, Jim Tressel has had 14 players involved with some type of scrape with the law since 2001 (a few of those happened within weeks of him being hired, but that's neither here nor there).

That's 14 players in the last 4 years and Ohio State is splashed all over espin and ripped up one side and down the other during the Alamo Bowl about how Coach Tressel isn't controlling his players.

Fulmer has had 12 incidents IN THE LAST YEAR!! Interesting.

EDIT: Grad, I doubt that they have thrown away their career. I believe they'll be suspended from any football activities for the summer and reinstated August 1 (a la Andre Johnson at Miami).

EDIT II: Now I see that Tennessee had two players escorted from practice today on arrest warrants. Will this make espin?

Two more Tennessee players arrested in fight on campus

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Two Tennessee freshmen were charged Tuesday with aggravated assault for their role in fights that broke out between football players and fraternity members at an on-campus party last month.

Jerod Mayo and Robert Ayers, who redshirted last season, turned themselves in and were released from the Knox County Detention Facility on Tuesday.
The arrest of Mayo and Ayers comes two days after quarterback Brent Schaeffer and receiver Bret Smith were charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly hitting a student who had been arguing with Schaeffer's girlfriend in a dorm early Sunday.

A total of 11 players have been either charged or cited since February with crimes ranging from underage drinking and shoplifting to assault.

"We've got some very immature young men on this football team, and certainly, if not immature, socially unadjusted at this time," coach Phillip Fulmer said Tuesday. "I'm extremely embarrassed and disappointed in the actions of a number of our players over the last several months. We have a large majority of our guys doing the right thing and a few that have embarrassed us in a very big way."
Ayers, a defensive end from Clio, S.C., was suspended from the team by Fulmer. Mayo, a linebacker from Hampton, Va., was not suspended.

Mayo issued a statement through the athletic department, claiming he did not take part in the incident.

Reserve linebacker Daniel Brooks, who was named as a suspect in a police report was not charged. Fulmer suspended him for the first two games of next season for repeated bad behavior, a decision he made several weeks ago but didn't announce until Tuesday.

Fulmer apologized to the university community, the school president, the athletic director and the team's fans. He was visibly angry and said his tolerance for misbehavior was very low.

"I'm not happy right now," he said.

Smith told the paper that the two argued over money a few weeks ago.

Byrd, a tight end, has been ineligible to practice, but Smith, a wide receiver, has taken part in spring drills. Neither has been disciplined for the fight.

"The way these guys battle and they do stuff, they live together, there's going to be issues," coach Pete Carroll told the Times. "Did you ever fight with your brother? ... I'm sorry that somebody got hurt but other than that it's not a big deal. They're fine about it."

Smith told the paper that he owed Byrd money, and the two were playing a video game.

"I put more money down and I lost the game, and I took it back before the game was over," Smith told the Times. "And then we were like, 'Man, well, we're going to have to fight. It was so stupid."

If this happened at OSU, the newspapers would want the NCAA to come in and investigate possible illegal betting going on in the program.:biggrin:

All is lost! Anyone want to buy a pair of season tickets for the upper section of the Coliseum, a couple media guides, and assorted USC memorabilia and apparel?

I don't get it. Alleged murder and rape gets thrown into the police blotter, but USC players fighting over a video game gets its own thread?
