Poli forum FUBAR (Obama thread)

DaytonBuck

I've always liked them
"Barack Obama campaigned on a pledge to change Washington, vowing to upend the K Street lobbying culture he encountered when he joined the U.S. Senate. But more than a dozen members of President-elect Obama's fast-growing transition team have worked as federally registered lobbyists within the past four years. They include former lobbyists for the nation's trial lawyers association, mortgage giant Fannie Mae, drug companies such as Amgen, high-tech firms such as Microsoft, labor unions and the liberal advocacy group Center for American Progress."

Washington Post

Plus this artful phraseology:

In a 2007 speech, he said he was "running to tell the lobbyists in Washington that their days of setting the agenda are over. They have not funded my campaign. They won't work in my White House."

A few days later, he changed the phrasing to say that lobbyists "are not going to dominate my White House."

Quite the backslide. It'll be interesting to see if he can even live up to the watered-down promise. How big a deal is this? Well, you can make too much of these appearance issues, but on the other hand, he promised an entirely new kind of government. So far, that's looking a lot like the similar promises of rectitude from Congressional Democrats in 2006, promises that -- to put it mildly -- weren't borne out once the election was over.

DaytonBuck - did you write the above post, or merely copy it from another source?

Asked as it would seem that the verbiage outside of the "Quote" box is presented as yours, yet I swear it is old stuff, written by others.

It is not the first time I have seen that happen in your posts.

His link includes the quotes presented, and I think including that link qualifies as citing the source.

Mm. Nope, - read my original post again, I'm talking about text presented outside of the Quote box. That does not come from WashPo.

Mr. Instapundit, is that you?

Instapundit.com -

You guys need to find a craftier way to plagiarize, for fuck's sake. Might want to change your user title to "Someone Else's Brains".

Seeing as how I had to be in an international conference call at 5am on today, working on no sleep and made the post while on a call with my sales manager I slipped and hit post before I got the quote for instapundit and didn't pay attention to it. I made the mistake and I'll take the hit for it.

Seeing as how many people read that site on here and it's first thing that pops up in google when google I'm glad you assume the worst and not an honest mistake. I guess you probably also assumed I cheated my way through creative writing class in college by retyping Milton verbatum. So yes you've caught me I really am this stupid and arrogant. I'm glad Sushichic and Steve19 and Sandgk GPA'ed Sushi's 10 second google job of my massive cover up.

I also plagiarized this from the BCS, mea culpa

You're just like one of Manfred's students, coming crying to teacher with lame excuse. It's still an F! :p

Milton would have approved had you really plagiarized his work. He doesn't care to get the credit for the idea as long as the idea gets out.

Jennings: Don't write this down, but I find Milton probably as boring as you find Milton. Mrs. Milton found him boring too. He's a little bit long-winded, he doesn't translate very well into our generation, and his jokes are terrible.
[Bell rings, students rise to leave]
Jennings: But that doesn't relieve you of your responsibility for this material. Now I'm waiting for reports from some of you... Listen, I'm not joking. This is my job!

I don't see where any of this looks like he was trying to pass it off as his own thoughts. You sure do jump down his throat awfully quickly. If it was pro-Obama would you have tried to "expose" him?

Gem, we all like Dayton just fine. But we've all been posting a while, and to an extent we all receive (usually) a sort of response that is part the immediate subject and part a response to the poster and the poster's position and response to other posts in the past. Maybe this response it in part due to some of Dayton's strong responses to other posts in the past. Dunno. Just a thought.

Dayton is not only a big boy, he is a smart, well read and articulate fellow who can defend himself (not to say that your post is not appropriate or that your comment is not welcome). True, this whole board is sometimes a bit contentious, and you have to expect the odd bruised feelings response from time to time...and even responses that are not - um - "fair" in one's mind
