i picked colorado state. defensively they are getting burned with the pass. i have no real clue why. they are not tooing too bad with the run but navy is running the one trap option play and destroying csu with it. offensively csu seems alright but they cant sustain a drive. the sperry guy is a real good player. i have been impressed.

Um. The flexbone is officially my new favorite offensive scheme.

That trip option is absolutely ridiculous.

Can you imagine a flexbone set with our talent?!

Jesus...

Line: Barton Smith Cordle Rehring Boone
SB: Pittman, MoWells
FB: CWells
QB: TS
WR: Gonzo, Ginn

... Oh man.

If undersized, rough and tough players like the ones on Navy can thrive in that offensive scheme, our monsters on O should destroy.

Well, Navy did finish the regular season #1 in the country in rushing with 305 ypg (319 ypg counting the 467 yards against CSU in the bowl game last night), but you have to keep in my who they got those yards against. Here are the teams they played this year, that team's rush defense ranking, and the amount of points Navy scored against them:

Maryland (#79) 20 points
Stanford (#69) 38 points
Duke (#109) 28 points
Air Force (#86) 27 points
Kent State (#107) 34 points
Rice (#111) 41 points
Rutgers (#31) 21 points
Tulane (#101) 49 points
Notre Dame (#25) 21 points
Temple (#105) 38 points
Army (#84) 42 points
Colorado State (#104) 51 points

They played half their games against teams with rush defenses ranked in the 100s, and all but two games against rush defenses ranked in the lower half. The only good rush defenses they played against were Rutgers (gained 207 yards rushing) and Notre Dame (gained 239 yards rushing), and managed only 21 points in both games (both were losses, by the way). The flexbone may look flashy and efficient against shitty rush defenses, but against a good rush defense it can be shut down.

damn you beat me to it mili. the csu defense was prolly the worst defensive performance i have seen this year. second would be stanford in the ND game.

Missed this thread until today, so I'm a little late. Paul Johnson is the man when it comes to running the option out of the spread (flexbone). He makes great adjustments and has the "knack" for making the right play call. It would not shock me to see him end up in the SEC or ACC one day, though he is happy at Navy.
