So, what exactly is the fascination with the Podcast? Is it just a pre-recorded program that you listen to/watch on your own time? Are they free
or do they all have a nominal charge?

Hell. I'm still a piker when it comes to Ipods/MP3 players, so please excuse
my ignorance.

Most of the fascination with them for me is that they're (for the most part) free. Part of it is a sort of YouTube-for-your-iPod thing - literally anybody with the know-how and the time can publish their own podcast. One of them that I named - Crash Test Kitchen - is an Australian couple that have made their own cooking show podcast. Some of the stuff is content from large, commercial providers. For instance, the NBC Nightly News - I get the entire video broadcast on my iPod for free. Pardon the Interruption has their full episodes available, but it's audio only.

Bucknuts Radio Hour is also available on iTunes as a podcast, for those that are interested.

jlb - is this podcast related to the band? If so, what is it? Thanks in advance!

It's not only related to the band, it's BY the band. You can just search for it in iTunes. There are only a few episodes - the trailer from Jeff Tweedy's live DVD, and then a couple of episodes where Glenn Kotche and John Stirratt (respectively) play some of their favorite tracks from Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Loose Fur, and other projects. It's good stuff.

How Stuff Works:
two catagories:
"Stuff You Missed in History Class"
&
"Stuff You Should Know."

This American Life

One lecture by Donald Keagan: "Introduction to Ancient Greek History."

All good ways to get through 12 hour work day.
Anyone have any new ones to suggest?

Personally, I like the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Harvard Business Review, and SalesGravy. Those are the serious ones.

For fun, I like ESPN College Football and College Basketball podcasts, Bucknuts Radio Hour, Rivals Radio, Car Talk, and a variety of old time radio podcasts.

Used to like Karen E. Klein's podcast on Business Week (Smart Answers), but she seems to have disappeared with Bloomberg's acquisition of Business Week from TimeLife.

All these are terrific as background when you work out.
