Faneca wasn't all about the money, he had become a cancer in the lockeroom and has a reputation for not being a consumate team player. The Rooney's have let alot of high priced free agents go in the past and it has worked out time after time so I have faith that not paying Faneca was the right thing to do.
I still think we need someone behind Starks pushing him because he gets lazy if there is no competition. And I think it is going to take a little time for Hartwig to get used to playing center in the Steelers scheme. But I sure as hell am glad that Mahan is gone. He was the absolute worst player on the line last year. I have no idea how anyone would be willing to trade anything for him.
I continue to hold out hope that the line shows improvement each week, and take some comfort in the fact that in the last two weeks we have played two teams that blitz more than anyone else in the league with the exception of the Steelers. But this line's deficiences remind me far too much of last year's.

I'm a NY Giant fan; however, it is sure getting obvious this year why the Steelers let Plaxico Burris go (i.e. free agent). The man definitely has "some problems". :(

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)?New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress was fined $45,000 by the NFL for verbally abusing an official and tossing a ball into the stands during last weekend?s game against San Francisco.
Burress was fined $20,000 for comments to head linesman Phil McKinnely after the official called him for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the second quarter, and $20,000 for inappropriate comments after the game on the officiating.
McKinnely had called Burress for offensive pass interference against cornerback Nate Clements on the previous play. After the next play, Burress drew the unsportsmanlike penalty for some choice remarks to the officials.
Burress was assessed another $5,000 fine for throwing a ball into the stands after catching a touchdown in the third quarter.
Burress was suspended by the Giants for one game earlier this season for missing a team meeting on Sept. 22, a decision that cost him $117,500. He has admitted to being fined 20 to 30 times by the team for violating team rules since joining them in 2005.
The nine-year veteran returned to practice Friday after missing two days of work with a sore shoulder and stiff neck. He said he would be ready to play against the Steelers this weekend in his return to Pittsburgh.
?I had a full day of practice, no limitations, so I am ready to go,? Burress said. ?I have 48 hours to get ready for the game and I should be back to close to 100 percent.?
Burress spoke before the league disclosed his fine.

Other than his "problems" off the field, he is pretty overrated. He has the size and speed to be a truly dominant receiver; he just tends to disappear way too much during a game.
When he was with the Steelers, I always hated his in-air ball skills - or lack thereof. He looks terribly uncoordinated and awkward whenever he is forced to leave his feet to catch the ball..... a 6'6" guy like Burress should never get out-jumped by 5'11" DB's......

Report: Agreement reached on Steelers sale
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney's four brothers have agreed to sell a controlling stake of the team to him and his son, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
Patrick and Art Rooney Jr. confirmed the deal in a story posted on the paper's Web site Friday night. They and their other two brothers -- Timothy and John -- could get a total of $750 million after debt is taken out, according to the report.
Art Rooney Jr. said the brothers hope to get the deal wrapped up before a board meeting in December. Both sides want to get a deal done by then because they are worried about possible higher taxes once the Obama administration is in office.
"It's a good deal. I'm happy for Dan. I'm happy for the rest of the family. I think young Art, Dan's son, will do a fine job," Patrick Rooney told the paper. "I think we're doing the right thing."
Art Rooney II, Dan's son, is the team president.
Each brother owns 16 percent of the team, adding up to 80 percent, with another Pittsburgh family, the McGinleys, owning 20 percent. Those shares are not being sold. The Rooneys' father, Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr., bought the franchise in 1933 for $2,500.

The deal, as such, was rumored for months in the Pittsburgh media - and nationally. This leaves the younger Rooney brothers free to delve fully into the gaming and gambling industries.
Certainly, this also means that Dan Rooney will be the last of his line to own the Steelers - as he gets further on in age look for the franchise to be shopped to other parties.
