Pittsburgh Steelers (official thread)

I grew up in Columbus and in the early 80's when I was in grade school i remember most of the kids had Steelers jackets or Cowboys jackets. My dad sent me to school on a friday that we were supposed to show support for a pro football team in a Brian Brennan jersey and I remember the kids in Steelers and Cowboys gear making fun of it....that was the first time I thought where the fuck do I live?....It always made sense that folks along the river in southeast Ohio up to Youngstown could fall into the Steelers catagory but in Columbus you would think it would be different because I dont see too many Pirates fans. I say this not having any problem with any of the 20 Steelers fans that work in my office....im not angry just sayin

I was at the Jax airport midday on Wednesday and a womens softball team was waiting for the same flight (directional Dakota State). Anyway, a large plane starts taxiing down to the runway and it has a huge Steelers logo on the tail fin.

I don't know if it was a team plane or what (obviously not in season so there wouldn't be players on it) but everyone takes notice and the Marla Hooch in charge of the womens team says "If that plane pulls in here and Ben Roethlisberger gets off it all you girls stay together and don't go near him. Your safety is my responsibility."

It was either a great deadpan or she was 100% serious, either way I spit my coffee out laughing so hard.

If they were anything like the women's softball teams that I've come across the only danger is if an eating contest breaks out and one of them chokes.

There was actually some talent but overall, yeah I'd say Ben would need to be careful as he only goes about 270-280.

Best. Article. Ever. :slappy:

The biggest problem is Pittsburgh fans love to pretend they are the best fans in the world. But where are they during baseball season? Sure they love the Pens now and like to call themselves great NHL fans too, but where were they when the team nearly moved to Kansas City? The Penguins were dead last in NHL attendance in 2003-04. Unless the product is good, Pittsburgh doesn't care, but when they are good they'll tell you time and time again that Pittsburgh loves its sports more than anyone.

Fans, I get that Pittsburgh has had hard times and as a result you cling to your football success, but learn to temper yourselves. Steelers fans will run up and down a bar screaming and giving anyone and everyone a high-five when they score a fourth quarter TD to take a 38-3 lead on the Panthers. They didn't just score a go ahead touchdown against a rival, they scored garbage points in a meaningless game.

Also annoying is the stigma that Pittsburgh travels well because there are Steelers fans at all road games. This isn't because they travel, this is because, one, everyone left Pittsburgh so their fans are spread all over the east coast; and two, they are the bandwagon fans' team of choice.

Amen.

Annoying Steelers

LOS ANGELES -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Hines Ward was briefly detained at gunpoint Thursday in a mix-up over a reported stolen car, but he was released without being arrested, police said.
Ward and a female friend were stopped in her car at about 1:30 a.m. in North Hollywood because she had reported the car stolen on April 19, Sgt. Maria Morrison said.
The two had left a restaurant in North Hollywood, officer Sara Faden said.
Police took Ward out of the car at gunpoint and handcuffed him, Morrison said. Ward and the woman were released after she was able to prove the car was hers.
"She had gone somewhere, misparked it, reported it stolen and found it later" but failed to cancel the police report, Morrison said.
Ward cooperated with police while he was detained, she said.
The woman's name wasn't released, but she isn't Ward's partner on "Dancing With the Stars," Morrison said.

Hines Ward popped for DUI in GA this morning.
Apparently he thought he had won the Dancing with the Bars Championship.
I heard he's changing his name to Prison Ward now.
We all knew that Hines Ward loves cheap shots, but this is too much!
Take em, I'm here all week! And remember to tip your waiters.
