Pittsburgh Penguins (Official Thread)

might as well call Chicago's 4th goal a PP as well. 3 seconds after the penalty ended.

I'll be shocked if Pitt wins this game now. 2 goal lead to start the 3rd and outshot 19-4 with about 2 to play. Sad.
a friend of mine caluclates pp production with a +15 factor. also someone i know calculates until the puck is fully cleared after the penalty ends.

granted both of these guys dont count "power plays" they use a minute production basis for the power play. so a pp might be rated with 9:10 or 10:15 of man power per goal. this offsets shortened penalties (not full 2 mins penalties), blah blah. if that makes sense?

Kind of, I would need to get more detail.

I would be interested in anything you know that mirrors what the SABER guys do in baseball, for hockey.

Pens play better on the road and without Crosby, go figure.

Nothing to figure out, really. The addition of Gonchar is a very big difference. Throw in the fact that Kunitz is in and Whitney is out and you have your answer. They'll play even better when Crosby gets back. Actually, Jordan Staal has turned up his game since the trade. Maybe all the talk of him getting moved has lit him up. He's putting the puck on goal and playing a different game. He played well with Kunitz too. Like Sid, maybe he's tired of playing on a line with turds.

Pens waived Satan today. I presume to clear up cap space. Should be an interesting trade deadline tomorrow.

Also, Crosby is still bothered by a groin injury and will not play tonight. Hopefully he will be better for the Florida and Capitals game later this week.

Any ideas about lines?

I'm thinking it's gonna end up looking like

Kunitz-Croz-Guerin
Fedo-Malkin-Sykora
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Dupuis-Talbot-Adams

For gods sake, please don't say that Kunitz should play with Staal. Yeah, he has looked great with him, but I think that is a product of how perfect he fits into Bylsma's philosophy. And, honestly, Crosby + Guy that goes to net = Win. I imagine that top line will produce a lot of Crosby pass to Guerin, Guerin shoots, Kunitz knocks in rebound goals. Just fits his style.
