Pittsburgh Penguins 2006/07

yup saw that. should be interesting with what they have on the books. he could have gotten up to 10mm a year.

should be interesting to see how they can work it all out with whitneys contract and then malkin/staal.

pretty interesting a club can go out and spend like they did after claiming their claims the last few years.... granted im not much of a fan of pens ownership...

It's going to be nearly impossible to find another Ulf Samuelsson.

Thank god! If I ever find the original, he's a freakin' dead man! :pissed:

I'm not positive, but I think I remember that when SI was taking a poll of NHL players regarding who was the dirtiest, Ulfie asked if he could vote for himself. :slappy:

(Sorry, no link for you, jo4h....just something I think I read somewhere quite sometime ago.)

Whitney signed a nice contract around 4mil per. In the middle of that contract, it will be a great deal. In the long run, I think one of Malkin/Staal might not be around. Of course, Gonchar and his 5.5 mil will be off the books soon (before the new arena). Fluery is too inconsistent for my taste, at least as a long term, high priced goalie.

On a good note, season tickets for this season are all sold out. They have a waiting list for season tickets. They also did away with 1/2 season plans so they are all full season holders. 3 years from now, Sids deal will also look nice. After the 6th year, who knows.

so looking at that in the same year you have malkin, staal, christensen, talbot, backup netminder as rfas, with skyora, sydor, scuderi as ufas in 9/10

it will be interesting to see if they can keep all the talent they tanked/bitched to get...

Tanked? Bitched? They tanked to get 66. They got very lucky with 87 and had bad luck when they lost out for Ovechkin, but I'll gladly take Malkin as the runner up prize. They did a great job drafting Staal. I remember people having questions about him leading up to the draft. He had a great all around season.

Hey don't confuse tanking with sucking. Their payroll was rock bottom and their talent was even lower. They worked the draft pretty good. Traded up to get MAF and hit the jackpot with Staal and Whitney. They still have some good young players they can keep in Wilkes-Barre to eventually bring up when some of these fringe players take more money elsewhere.

How did tanking possibly benefit them in the Crosby sweepstakes? Every team in the league had a ball in the drawing , and the Jackets,Rangers, Sabres and Penguins all had 3 balls. You're not still sore because the CBJ didn't win, are you?

How did bitching to the league help them? Iiif the league wanted to rig the lottery, then the Rangers would have won. The league would be better off had the Rangers won him.

I'd like to hear more about your conspiracy theory.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that the team has signed head coach Michel Therrien to a contract extension through the 2008-09 season.
Therrien led the Penguins to a 47-24-11 record (105 points) during the 2006-07 season, a 47-point improvement over the previous campaign.
Therrien also guided the Penguins into the playoffs for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

Oops.

J.O, What do you know about the supposed "ice bowl" game between the Pens and Sabres ? I've heard Jan. 1st, which sucks and also sometime in Feb, which would be great. If it's in Feb, I'll make the trip to Ralph Wilson, dressed like an Eskimo, to watch a little old-fashioned pond hockey.
