Pitt 13, West Virginia 9 (final)

can't wait for LeSean Mccoy to rip off a 175 yard game

Wanny shouldn't even consider throwing the ball....just feed it to your rb's all game...WVU cannot stop the run. I'm being semi-serious here, they should really just go power formations the entire game, control the clock as much as they can, and pound it out

UCONN gave up on the run way too early even though the averaged close to 8 ypc through 2.5 quarters.

Just throwing this out there, but WVU is #13 against the run.....not too bad if you ask me.....People think our dfense sucks like last year....Were #6 overrall D.....

Let us talk about what you have done against real running backs.

Against some teams that can actually run the ball:
-Ray Rice, Rutgers, 30 for 147

Look at last year:
-Ray Rice, Rutgers, 25 for 129, 2 TD
-Tashard Choice, 27 for 169, 2 TD

Pitt still isn't necessarily good at running the ball overall, but they have some star power at that position this year.

Doesn't matter. Pitt can't stop your offense.

Right, just like ND has a top 15 pass defense. Why throw on ND when you can just run the ball.

Teams haven't been able to match WVU points so they resort to throwing against a 3-3-5 defnse. I think that speaks volumes of your pass defense, seriosuly. I'm not going to deny your pass defense has been great, but please re-watch the UCONN game and tell me your run defense doesn't need work. They absolutely shredded your defense.

I think this is a true indication of stats being deceitful. If WVU wasn't capable of putting up the points it does, your run d would be closer to 60 than 6.

I trust what I saw against UConn more than I trust those stats.

I get the feeling that the rush defense stats are propped up by the proficiency of the WVU offense and the fact that inferior teams abandon the run because of the ability of the Mountaineers to put up points in bunches. Pitt is also an inferior team, but the hope around here at least is that a good RB like McCoy and the possibility of not abandoning the run could give Pitt a puncher's chance.

DTD confirms that WVU's D is legit, if you ask me.

Hey BKB, could you point me to that info.

I still was less than impressed with the run D against UCONN. I don't know if you saw that game, but UCONN ran at will in the first half. One RB has 12 carries for 108 yards and his longest run was a 20 yarder. There were holes everywhere, and it just seemed like WVU line couldn't get any penetartion at all, and by only utilizing 3 down lineman and 3 LB'ers there were plenty of holes to find.

I think a 3-3-5 in the Big 10 would get gashed, because teams can run the football in the Big 10 for the most part. The lack of run oriented offenses, and trailing from behind, I believe has led to WVU to a solid run defense ranking.

Running from a shotgun formation in A UC/Lousisville/USF offense is much differnt than attacking from an I-formation w/ 2 tight-ends.

Again, I don't expect Pitt to win, but I think if they focus on the ground game they can keep it close. Not many Big East offenses utilize a pro-style offense like Pitt.

Here is the post BKB was referring to...

WVU is number 5...

This can be inflated (to a point) by playing in a bad conference, but you don't get to number 5 without being pretty good, regardless of conference.

I'm not disagreeing with you, DBB, but unfortunately, you come out on the same page as Stewie on this one:

I'm sorry...
