Well, before the cell phone, if a situation arose, a member of your family would probably call the school. The school would then send someone with a note. That person would walk into the class, disrupting it, and then, you would leave.

Is that about right?

or they could also send smoke signals, or send a carrier pigeon (which would shit EVERYWHERE), or singing telegram... all would be very disruptive!

Loud, squeaky, crackling, non-room-specific intercom messages were fun back in elementary school...

"Mrs. Gould, please send Johnny to the office. His mother brought his lunch and some dry pants."

Loud, squeaky, crackling, non-room-specific intercom messages were fun...

There were room-specific ones at my highschool. THe call buttons were so sensitive, you could call the office using a well aimed spitball. We generally did this once a week. Hilarity ensued.
