Funny how everyone thinks Steve is gonna be a life long back up. Remember last year when no one could beleive he got an offer, and then ended up being the only true frosh on the oline to see time (and in no way am I taking anything away from those guys). Can't wait till the season. :)LordJeffBuck said:Agree on Boone, maybe not game four though.
Eventually the 2005 starting OL could very well be:
LT Boone
LG Sims
OC Cordle
RG Mangold
RT Barton
With Rehring backing up at either tackle spot, Person, Mitchum, and Skinner being in the two-deep on the inside. Datish, Downing, and the rest will have a tough time staying in the two-deep.
Wow, Tress has some balls. Pittman goes down with a sprained ankle and he doesn't pull the redshirt off Wells or Russell. Haw was a busy boy rushing for 188.8 rushes without a backup. Perhaps White moved to TB for this year or one of the walkons was serviceable. Still, assuming 30 carries per game puts Pittman's return somewhere around game 8. We must be getting good production from our WR's. I bet Ginn gets a few hand offs and there are some designated QB runs for Smith. :tongue2:victor64 said:RB Eric Haw
Finally settled after his late spring high, Eric asserted himself in Texas game after starter Antonio Pittman went down with a sprained ankle in the first quarter. Since the Texas game, he has gained 925 yards averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Strangely, he caught another 18 passes out of the backfield. Now healthy, Pittman has gotten only 34 carries since. Maurice Wells and Anderson Russell redshirted.
Even more interesting is how some seem to have written off Mitchum...jwinslow said:You're overlooking how incredible Boone should be and cordle already is... it isn't as much of a knock on Rehring in LJB's prediction...
LordJeffBuck said:For the record, I haven't written off either Rehring or Mitchum - both could easily be starters in 2005 and beyond. I was making a "shoot from the hip" prediction in a "fun" thread before the beginning of training camp. Barring injury, Steve and Kyle will certainly be in the two-deep this season.
What's absurd is that those two could be ready to start yet be redshirted b/c Everett, Welch, Lane and O'Neal might be better. We really are quite greedy at DB :)MililaniBuckeye said:I think the surprise of the season may be one of the true freshman (Malcolm Jenkins or Andre Amos) winning the corner job opposite of Youboty by mid-season. Jenkins apparently shut down everyone in the NJ/NY game while Amos was all over Mario Manningham in the Ohio North-South game.
Definitely very good at pulling - check out his high school film.Anyway very good on his feet, probably real good at pulling.
The only way I see TGII starting on defense is if we have a rash of injuries at cornerback. It would have to be on par with Iowa's running back catastrophe from last season, though. We have too many viable candidates to play CB, and he is too valuable on offense. I think he may get spot duty on D, but only in the red zone or maybe if someone is absolutely torching the defensive backfield- which I don't see happening.CoosMeister said:QB Troy Smith throws for 40 TDs and 13 INT and rushes for 750 yards on the way to the Heisman trophy.
*Wakes up*
I think Ginn will break the punt return record this year and I think that Gonzalez will have 6 TDs. I also believe Ginn will move to #3 WR behind Gonzalez and instead start on defence opposite of Youbuty.
