Phillies fan tazed on field

That should be part of community service sentences. Fuck picking up garbage on the highway, require them to run around on the field during the 7th inning stretch until they get tazed. Shorten their sentence for every 10 seconds they can avoid the gun and jazz up the game a bit. :p

one side of me agrees. the other side of me misses the good old days when it was absolutely common to have streakers on the field. nothing like a grown man chasing another grown man and having to tackle him, they put an end to that with the sexual predator stuff. is the kid a dumbass, sure.

I think the innocence of that era was dashed away when Monica Seles was stabbed.

But that dude wasn't doing zigzags through the outfield. He didn't even leave the stands. The Gamboa incident is a better example, but those guys made a beeline for the guy.

I've yet to see violence from someone who runs onto the field and then proceeds to try to evade security.

Morganna had a couple of deadly weapons.

*edit- guess I should do some fact-checking before I look like a dumbass.
(Incident happened in 2002, and there was no stabbing, just a base coach (Gamboa) getting mugged/tackled.)

That White Sox incident a few years back was pretty wild too. Base coach got stabbed.

I'm with jo...it can be pretty funny- regular streakers, drunk kids, old guys, etc., I normally laugh my ass off, but there's too much at stake and we just never know, so it's probably best to protect these athletes while they are at their place of work (use of tasers adds to the hilarity, however).

that was what, 93? and it was some euro pansie anyway. some classic events occurred after that. but yes sure, the crazies are out there. and that is one of the reasons why comical it is bad.

I didn't mean to imply that the majority of incidents since then haven't been innocent - just that since then (and the White Sox incident much later) the potential for something like that has to be considered to be a possibility when a fan tries to interact inappropriately with players and umps in competition.

Anyway, that's all I'm gonna say about that aspect of this. I don't want to see this thread stray from it's original intent - to relentlessly make fun of another douchebag Phillies fan.

Fan runs on Philadelphia Phillies field day after Taser incident - ESPN
PHILADELPHIA -- A fan has run onto the field at Citizens Bank Park during a baseball game in Philadelphia, one night after a teenager was Tasered in the outfield.
Security did not use a Taser to apprehend the man on Tuesday night. He gave himself up without incident.
The Philadelphia Phillies were leading St. Louis 1-0 in the top of the ninth inning when a guy hopped over the fence in left field and ran along the warning track waving his arms. The sellout crowd booed and he was soon captured.
In Monday night's game, a police officer chased a 17-year-old boy for about 30 seconds before the stun gun probe hit the teenager.

Fuck 'em. You want to deter spectators from running on the field? Don't have rent-a-cops tase them. Let Nolan Ryan put them in a headlock and punch them silly like he did to Robin Ventura. It's going to happen. One of these days a drunken 155 lb idiot is going to run out on the field and wind up getting laid out or even killed by a 6'6" 250 lb power pitcher. I'm envisioning a Kermit Washington/Rudy Tomjanovich type deal here.

It was highlight-reel, slapstick comedy worthy of the NFL Films archive back when linebackers and linemen laid out streakers on football fields in the 70s. If an athlete does it today, he'll probably be suspended by his league, lose his pay, and get sued by the fan. Sucks.

If I were Commish Selig, I'd be on the phone telling every ticket office in the league to update the legalese on the back of the tickets to include a disclaimer that if the ticketbearer runs on the field, he/she forfeits all legal rights and is free to have their teeth kicked in by the players.

Again. Fuck 'em.
