I don’t like him, but my alternative hypothesis is that he thought he could go to the more money for less work with less competition league and still be sharp enough to win majors, which is all he really cares about, and has realized that he’d lost his edge away from the PGA Tour and wants to get it back so he can be relevant again.Ehhh…I disagree.
Brooks took the easy path back. He hates the mandatory schedule on LIV which is 14 weeks and all over the world.
I think Brooks is soft and took an easy path out.
I’m of the mindset he wasn’t sure he could come back from his injury enough to play at an elite level. He took the money on the chance he couldn’t. Now he knows he can, so I agree he wants to get the edge back and be relevant.I don’t like him, but my alternative hypothesis is that he thought he could go to the more money for less work with less competition league and still be sharp enough to win majors, which is all he really cares about, and has realized that he’d lost his edge away from the PGA Tour and wants to get it back so he can be relevant again.
The issue with Brooks is he always played a “light” PGA Tour schedule anyways. He has never liked to grind, and he’s an admitted “home-body”…..nothing wrong with that, IMO.I don’t like him, but my alternative hypothesis is that he thought he could go to the more money for less work with less competition league and still be sharp enough to win majors, which is all he really cares about, and has realized that he’d lost his edge away from the PGA Tour and wants to get it back so he can be relevant again.
I hadn’t realized that they’d gone to four rounds. The issue with Brooks is he always played a “light” PGA Tour schedule anyways. He has never liked to grind, and he’s an admitted “home-body”…..nothing wrong with that, IMO.
For all the shit LIV players get, their schedule is mandatory to qualify for the contractual $$$, and the schedule is all over the world. Brooks hates that.
Add in LIV went to (4) round tournaments (like the PGA Tour) to qualify for World Ranking points, and many of the reasons Brooks joined LIV (for less wear and tear on his body) basically disappeared over 2 years.
He’s going to play a light PGA schedule, but be much happier.
The last thing I’d point out….he made his brother Chase $5M on LIV. Chase ended up being relegated but he earned over $5M in his short time in LIV, only bc Brooks called that shot (that Chase had to play the first season). Now that Chase is relegated, he can’t really do his brother any favors….
But at least the next time Chase calls from the Philippino Tour asking for $$$, Brooks can say “what’d you do with that $5M I made you?”
Was probably worth it for that alone.
