PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

Mike's just having some poor luck on foul calls these playoffs.

He's been on the wrong end of a number of bad calls. Otherwise his D has been good. He's jumping passing lanes and creating havoc.

And his offense has been on point. One of my favorites to ever watch play.

Mike Conley: Conley scores 24 points in loss to Thunder

Mike Conley scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting (including three treys) with two rebounds, eight assists, four turnovers, and one steal in Tuesday's Game 2 loss.
Many laughed at his contract extension, but he's on his way to getting the last laugh as long as he continues to develop. The experience he's getting in this year's postseason will be invaluable to that process.

Q&A: Memphis guard Mike Conley
By John Rohde, Staff Writer, Oklahoman
Published: May 4, 2011

Last November, Memphis point guard Mike Conley signed a five-year contract extension that could be worth up to $45 million with incentives. The money stayed in the family because his father is also his agent. Olympic gold medalist Mike Conley Sr. remains the U.S. indoor record holder in the triple jump (58 feet, 3 1/4 inches). His son answered questions before playing Game 2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Plenty has been written about Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook since he joined the league, but not much has been written about you. You OK with that?

?I don?t mind. I understand our situations are different. He?s an All-Star. He?s going to get his shots. He?s going to get his opportunities to score 30 points. Some games, I?m asked to score 20-something points because I need to do that. In certain series like this, we hang our hat on our big guys and I understand that. What people say or think about me is not as important as winning.?

You and Daequan Cook were teammates at Ohio State. You two stay in touch?

?Oh, yeah. We talked before we knew we were playing against each other (in the playoffs). I don?t think we?re going to talk until maybe after the series is over.?

You got to the Final Four as freshmen, but do you, Cook and Greg Oden ever wonder what might have happened had you stayed in college more than one season?

?We thought about it, especially two years ago. We were thinking, ?Man, if we had stayed, we would have had a chance to do something great.? We would have been one of the better teams in college basketball history, it felt like. It was such a fun freshman year, I don?t know if we could have topped that. Only winning the national championship would have been better. To do the things we did, and the way we did it, was exciting.?

24pts 8 assists last night in the loss. his +/- of +1 was the only + on the roster last night.

+1 in the 41 min with Conley at the point.
-10 with G. Vasquez running the show for 7 min

I didn't watch the game admittedly but nice stat line
A lot of dudes have struggled to guard Westbrook this season...
Westbrook was held to 39% shooting and committed 7 turnovers.. That's solid work regardless of the total points he scored.

Just basing it off of what I heard, particularly in the first half of that game.

As pairing of Hoosiers Conley, Randolph thrives, the Grizzlies become a force
Grizzlies blossom right along with on-court pairing of Randolph, Conley

A month ago, the Memphis Grizzlies were a franchise without a single playoff victory.

Now they have not only won a game, they have knocked off a No. 1 seed and are tied through two games of the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals.

Helping power this playoff run are two former Indiana high school players, Lawrence North's Mike Conley at point guard and Marion's Zach Randolph in the post.

Conley is averaging 15.6 points and 6.5 assists in the playoffs with better than a 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. Randolph is averaging 22.3 points and 9.3 rebounds in the postseason.

"We have a great relationship with each other and trust each other," Conley said. "The fact that we're from Indiana, we look to each other for advice and can rely on each other.

"It's good to have somebody from close to home. When we're playing together, we just have a good feel for each other. I know where he wants the ball, when he wants it. He's become a very good passer. He's hit me for a lot of open jumpers."

Commentary: Forgotten former Buckeye Mike Conley Jr. is best Ohio State alum in NBA
By Tyler Robinson
[email protected]
Published: Tuesday, May 10, 2011

During the past Ohio State men's basketball season, a pregame video was played before home games featuring many past Buckeyes, such as Michael Redd, Greg Oden and Evan Turner. One player who was not included was Mike Conley Jr.

The former Buckeye point guard was part of a trio, along with Oden and Daequan Cook, who left OSU after one season following the 2007 NCAA Tournament runner-up campaign. Conley was drafted No. 4 by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2007 NBA draft.

Since then, it seems like Conley has been forgotten by Buckeye faithful. Maybe it is because many fans did not agree with his decision to turn pro, particularly after he promised to return following the championship game. Maybe it has something to do with playing for a small-market, perennial lottery team like Memphis. For whatever reason, it never seems to me that Conley gets recognition as a Buckeye legend with others such as Oden and Turner.

Now in his fourth season as a professional, the 23-year-old Conley is starting to establish himself as a solid NBA player. After receiving a five-year, $40 million contract extension before this season, Conley set career highs in points, assists and steals. He is one of the leaders of a young Grizzlies team that is contending in the NBA Western Conference playoffs.

The Grizzlies entered the postseason as a No. 8 seed and upset the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round in six games. Memphis is now battling the fourth-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference semifinals. The series is tied, 2-2.

For the postseason, Conley is playing 39.4 minutes and averaging 15.9 points and 6.2 assists per game. Going up against two of the NBA's top point guards, San Antonio's Tony Parker and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, Conley has held his own.

Still, Conley is going largely unnoticed. Most basketball analysts and pundits have been raving about the play of forward Zach Randolph and center Marc Gasol, two of Conley's teammates ? and rightfully so. Randolph and Gasol have been putting up gaudy numbers throughout the playoffs.

The orchestrator of those performances is Conley.

Mike Conley says that as the Grizzlies point guard it?s his responsibility to organize workouts during the lockout. ?And guys did a great job of keeping their word and coming in on time ready to work,? he said.

Mike Conley decided not to wait for an end to the NBA lockout to direct the Grizzlies.

The point guard took charge and mobilized his teammates for a mini-camp in Memphis this week.

Conley, Rudy Gay, Tony Allen, O.J. Mayo, Zach Randolph, Xavier Henry and Sam Young reunited at a local gym early Tuesday. Ish Smith and second-round draft pick Josh Selby were expected to join the group Wednesday.

The Grizzlies will practice together all week minus Darrell Arthur and their foreign teammates. Marc Gasol, Greivis Vasquez and Hamed Haddadi are playing with their national teams in Olympic-qualifying tournaments.

"I've been prepared all summer to do this," Conley said. "It's my job as the point guard. I want to be one of the leaders on the team. And guys did a great job of keeping their word and coming in on time ready to work.

"We found a good week when everybody could come back to Memphis and get some work in. We're going to do it again going forward. We're going to take weeks during the lockout to get together. It might be here. It might be in Las Vegas. Wherever we can get guys to meet and we can get a gym."

With all this down time that you have might we catch you in columbus watching your buckeyes?
Mike Conley Jr.
(1:04 PM)

Yeah, I actually live in Columbus in the offseason. I've been to a few football games. If the lockout continues, maybe I'll find myself at a basketball game, since I haven't been back for a basketball game since I left. That would be cool.
Greg (DC)

How much do you still talk to your old OSU teammates like Greg?
Mike Conley Jr.
(1:05 PM)

I talk to them every few weeks or so. We keep in touch just to make sure we keep our friendship in tact. I talked to Greg a few days ago. It's good to always hear from them.
