PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

Yeah, he is deinitely the best PG in the draft and actually the only TRUE PG as wel. Acie Law needs time to transition from the SG spot and Javaris Crittenden needs more time to learn. Conley will make a difference next year. I would not mind seeing him going to the Hawks, since the are in the East and i can see them when they come play the Magic in Orlando, but I would rather him go to a team that is more likely to be a winning program sooner rather than later. I just don't see that witht he Hawks right now.

Yep, and he might lose that distinction (both in draft and endorsements) to Mayo next year.

Yep, Cowherd listed off their lengthy list of draft picks and how pathetic they've been. Hopefully that changes moving forward, as that seems like a likely destination.

Taking Conley over someone like Jeff Green, Corey Brewer, Branden Wright, Al Horford is a stretch to me...

I think that you have to draft early in the draft for best player available and not position of need...

They have Childress and Smith so that probably takes Brewer and Green out of the equation, but their front line outside of Shelden Williams is pretty bare...

I don't see them passing on Branden Wright in that situation...

Unless of course they have the feeling that Spencer Hawes will be there for them at #11...

THey could also probably get Critteton with the number 11 pick as well...

They have a ton of flexibility with having two picks in the top 11...IMO they shoudl better their team quite a bit if they play it smart...

I agree with you that taking Conley at #3 could be a stretch, but if they believe that he won't be there for them at #11, I wouldn't blame them for grabbing him if he is their guy. Consistent point guards are very valuable in the NBA, and I think that Conley would only make all of his teammates better.

One scenario i saw is that if the Hawks draft Conley at #3, they could take Roy Hibbert at #11. I think that getting both of those guys would be a great situation for ATL.

I could be wrong, but didn't Hibbert withdraw himself from the draft?

Hibbert just pulled his name out of the draft...

I don't know what it is, but I just can't get myself to see Conley goig that high...

I understand how great he was here, and if he can do that in pros then you have a very good player, but just to play devil's advocate here a little bit...

He has always had Greg by his side, and that game is a whole lot easier when having a guy like that to lob it up when you are in trouble, to not allow teams to focus on you as the main guy, also he could be a liability at the NBA level until his jumper improves, and he is going to be battling guys down in the post that he is not going to be strong enough to play against...

When I think of NBA PG's the guys that come to mind are Nash, Kidd, Parker, Terry, Paul...The toughest position to transistion to the NBA is PG and it doesnt help when he is only 170 lbs...Going to atlanta is going to make him show what he truly is, b/c he isnt going to have a big inside presence, and the stregth is really on the wings, so the big guys down low are going to be able to sag and help off to effect his shot...

I really thought last year was a strong PG class with guys like Rando, Farmar, Williams, and really none of them made much of a name for themselves this year...

As much as I tend to agree with you, I am going the other way on this one. I think the fact that he played with Oden for so long has overshadowed the pure talent that Conley has. Don't forget how much time Oden sat in the tourney, giving way for Conley to become this highly rated. I'm not saying he's going to save anyone's franchise, especially Atlanta's (:bones:), or that Oden didn't play a huge part in his development and/or success. But it's time for Conley to become his own player, and I really do believe after watching this past season, that once he gets the reins he is really going to do some damage. Jay Bilas claims that if this was the '05 draft, it would be very hard to rank Conley, Deron Williams, and Chris Paul. I know that is unfair to Mike, but I will laugh if Atlanta passes on him and he becomes what I think he will. It would be a team like that who would pass on him, and then wish they didn't.

I know that Mike is a Buckeye and helped us tremendously to get to national prominence. However, I have said this before that he does not have a consistent outside shot and for that reason alone I do not see him going in the Top 10.

I know that he has tremendous ball skills and court awareness but in the NBA he will not be able to live on is penetrating ability alone. I don't think he really got hammered while he was here but he will in the NBA.

I gotta disagree,Mike was never a consistent three point shooter, but he's a good shooter. From having watched him since his soph year in HS I don't know if he'll ever be a great 3 point shooter simply because he's not a volume shooter. He wants everyone involved, and if he can't do that his outside shot is the 4th or last option. Who says he can't live on his dribble drive in the NBA? If you believe that Jr. is one of the great ones like me,he shouldn't have much of a problem. Like any great PG,all he needs is some shooters, there won't be many guys who can stay in front of him.He will end up being in the same class with Nash,Kidd,Paul ect.. imo.

I do agree with your point about his strength, but that along with his shooting will only affect his progress, not his draft status.

2005 draft
#4 Chris Paul
#5 Raymon Felton

These guys didn't have consistent outside shots and probably won't ever be "great" outside shooters.

I could go back to more drafts, but it's a waste of time. Jr. is the best PG in the draft and the best PG gets picked in the top 10.
