PG Duane Washington Jr. (3rd Team All-B1G, 1st Team All-B1G Tourney, Partizan)

He might be more fun to watch on the bench than in the game. A big bundle of energy and charisma. After Ledee got called for a foul, he was immediately over to give him a hug and pick him up. He will be a leader on this team.
This team seems to have a togetherness that we have not seen for a few years. Washington brings a lot of enthusiasm but I think that the entire freshman class has bought into what Ohio State basketball should be.

Going to be the player we thought Buford would be. Same smoothness but more energy out of him and that quick release is smooth.
Whoa:wink: , you are talking about one of my all-time favorite Buckeyes in William Buford. Buford could shoot the 3-ball pretty good. Remember when he almost single-handedly took down Sparty on his own. Duane had a very good shooting night from deeeepp last night but he needs to show me that a few more times before I can compare him to William

anyone familiar with my take on Duane on the Scout board knows how high I am on him. of the guards the staff pursued this summer and fall, shortly after we offered Duane, he was one of the top three I wanted most.

I wouldn't say he's D'Angelo or even a poor man's D'Angelo, but I do think he is criminally underrated on the 247Composite (bottom of the 300 is just absurd) and I think this HS season will change that some.

Is it too early to brag-bump this?

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Late in the second half of Ohio State's win over South Carolina State, one of the Bulldogs players drove baseline for a chance to score.

Ohio State’s Jaedon LeDee met the player at the rim and sent the ball back the other way, igniting a fast break for the Buckeyes.

Luther Muhammad recovered the ball and made his way down the court with Duane Washington Jr. running ahead on the opposite side. The two made eye contact and Muhammad lobbed the ball up to Washington Jr., who finished with a tip-in with a chance to go to the free throw line for a three-point play.

That sequence sums up the way that Ohio State’s freshmen are playing to start off their college careers. The Buckeyes are only four games into their season, but head coach Chris Holtmann says that each of his freshmen has been as good as advertised.

“I think all four of them in practice have been kind of what we thought in terms of their productivity and how capable we thought they could be," Holtmann said. “Especially the two guards (Muhammad and Washington) because that’s where we had less depth. They were going to be forced into the issue earlier than the other two.”

Muhammad has started in all four games this season, averaging 9.8 points per game while being one of the team’s best perimeter defenders, while Washington is averaging 12.3 points off the bench, including 57.9 percent from 3-point range. He’s scored in double figures in all but one game this season, including a season-high 20 points in a 107-61 win over Purdue Fort Wayne in the home opener. That game, he made 6 of 9 from 3-point range

Holtmann said that he knows that though his freshmen have started out strong, they’ll eventually go through rough patches, but that so far each has lived up to the expectations the coaching staff had for them.

“I’m also very aware that they are all going to go through ups and downs and they’re going to hit stretches where they’ll be like ‘whoa this is a long season’,” Holtmann said. “But I thought they’d all be able to have an impact.”

*Holtmann said freshman Duane Washington Jr. is working through some fatigue right now.

“Duane’s got to continue to have a feel for what’s a good shot and what’s not a good shot,” he said. “I think he’s getting a little better in that area, but he’s missed some very good looks. That happens when you’re a freshman. He has to understand that he can impact our team in other ways than just making shots. That’s a constant reminder for him. He’s hit some very important, timely shots for us, but I think there is a level of fatigue with him a little bit right now and he’s just got to work his way through it.”

Yeah, he's had a really rough last 3 games. I still have a lot of confidence in him overall and think he will be a really good player for us as soon as next season, but he's losing the battle with the Freshman Wall at the moment.
